The State: Who believes that putting guns to people's heads and forcing them to pay for things they don't want, is a good way to run society?

Two rules:

You can't say people really do want to pay for these things, otherwise the gun would be unnecessary.

Don't deny there is a gun to people's heads; otherwise there would be no calls for state action.

many will call foul on this next comment but i will say it anyways:

sometimes i think being born into middle class america is just as bad as being born into war torn africa... we are both slaves of our society

and on that note i apologize

Middle class Americans are probably no happier than those in war-torn Africa. That's probably more disturbing.

Your stance is too general, whats more I really dont think were slaves to our countries, we elect our leaders and if we dont like them we can get rid of them, whats more they are accountable to the public and this is largely done through groups.

If we dont like something we have the power to change it, your description is alot more fitting of north korea or China.

I think the only thing left to do is buy an island somewhere and start my own society that allows each person to do what their heart desires as long as they don't hurt anyone else or take away their right to do what they want

70% of americans do not want to be in Iraq... we are still there, I think that is evidence enough that we do not run our country, our leaders do.

Ellss - Will you have farmers and people to slaughter animals, sanitation workers? It's never going to work where everyone's happy.

yeah stubs, very naive idea there. it would be nice if it was true though.

Yeah, stubbs, what you say is more representative of how Europe may work... To paraphrase what a Frenchman said in the Michael Moore movie Sicko, in Europe, the governments fear their people; in America, the people fear their government.

Isnt that how America started so very long ago?

each person will be expected to work their own land and care for their own... i think that is one of the main downfalls of all society, we have too much time to do nothing.

if each person must spend 6-8 hours of the day obtaining their 3 daily meals and keeping up their homes we wouldnt have time for the stupid crap people pull, i think it just might be more enjoyable than sitting on the internet all day

If you put enough effort into removing yourself from the war you could, its apathy of the people thats the problem not the system.

If people actually voted, wrote petitions and protested you'd be out of the war dont blame the goverment for your own weakness there supposed to represent the people but they cant if you dont tell them what you want.

You have a realistic dream of a utopian society, shirt? I think it's possible for people to find a place that works for them, but there will always be people worse off and people better off, and there's no way I can believe that everyone in the world will get along and live peaceful, fulfilled lives. That said, I've heard that what we've spent on the war in Iraq would have solved world hunger for everyone for ten years or so. Ok, so maybe these 'impossible' things are more possible than we think, but there is no real reason to think that they will happen.

It's all the problem. It doesn't benefit 'the system' for everyone to be educated and informed.

dont blame the goverment for your own weakness

Come on, you've got to be kidding me. The government doesn't know what the people want?! They don't care. And the people that do care are told that they don't matter and that no one will hear them. And maybe they'll just get arrested for speaking out and have their phones tapped.

Ellsswhere your idea is flawed and hypocritical, you say you want everyone to have the ability to fufill their hearts desires yet you state that you want people to work a 6-8 hour shift and recieve three meals a day. The only way to achieve that is to force people to do it.

Many of the totalitarian regimes were created under good ideals like the ones you state.

Liberal democracy and the ideals of enlightenment are the fairest system we've created, its the only system close to achieving its alutaristic goals.

Oh and before you critise me and point out all the wrong doings of society remember those are the actions of the individual not society at large.

I'm sorry but the Iraq war is the exact same situation as vietnam, it was an un popular war, but the people took action and forced the goverment to pull out, if you want out of the war you can do it, you know why? because you live in a democracy.

You can't understand much at all about life in America today to post a statement like that. Would it be possible for people to make a change by uniting toward a common goal and marching? It's possible. Could everyone in the country actually vote? Probably not. Because they're undereducated or because they're too young or don't believe in it or don't care enough to get registered in time... for whatever reason, a shitload of Americans don't vote. And that sucks, but don't make blanket generalizations about America being a democracy and it's the land of the free and we can do anything because that just isn't true. The government is to blame for many problems, and the state of society right now is that most people are too selfish to care about Iraq unless their kids are there. And even if they or someone they know are fighting in Iraq, they could be so brainwashed and misled that they think what they're doing is right.

no my good man... each person has their own land, if they want 3 meals a day they must either grow it or hunt it (which would take 6-8 hours of each persons day)

if we chose to set up a community that could break it down into jobs i assume that wouldn't be a problem... but if you have to force people to cultivate the land for food then they really dont deserve to be living in our community, they are lazy
