Even though some of you guys were willing to be convinced that he's a racist or crazy or mean to gay people.

The truth is that you can be personally disinclined to rally around man love, but not want laws against it. Likewise with all behavior. Just because you are unwilling to pass a law for something, does not mean you favor a law banning it. Such thinking is evidence of a statist, caged and pitiful mind. Likewise, Paul criticized by the entire GOP establishment for not being a lifestyle-nazi like the rest of them.

For instance, there is no reason to specifically recognize any marriage, homosexual or heterosexual or otherwise because it is a private matter between private people. The answer is to depoliticize all marriage.

Also, if you think your one little state would be more oppressive than the entire federal leviathan, and believe that one-size-fits-all decrees for 300 million people are a rational, free way to organize society, than you are likely uncritical; it takes a relentless pride in one's transient public brainwashing to believe such obvious falsehoods. However, I would personally like to see the abolition of all states, but the president cannot effect that change.

In this sense is my supporting Paul, a compromise.

Likewise if you believe that your neighbor is incapable of safely owning firearms, but the entire murderous industrial/military controlled police-state edifice is capable and justified having assualt teams and nukes, then you lack perspective and cannot be, in my opinion, taken seriously. Only governments commit genocide, and usually always against disarmed peoples.

Moving on, a libertarian is incapable of racism; collectivism of any sort has no place in an individualistic philosophy which sees people as each an end in himself. A leftist who believes I should be forced to pay for things I care not to, or believes in racial quotas, or believes in forced association, or believes in socialism generally, has no merit whatever lecturing anyone on individualism or individual rights.

I am scared for the future because most people see solutions in government, where none are to be found. I am further worried, because generally, artists are supposed to have the accurate social antennae in society, as they have in previous times. I care about the future of humanity very much. However, I see a frightful faith in politics and coercive means that leaves no justice or prosperity; that tears people apart; that subjugates you for your own good.

That's because you've never seen a true conservative before. Neo-cons couldn't abolish taxes they spend more than anyone. When he says that, he's referring to federal taxes. The great thing about having a true conservative in office is no more "big ideas" coming to fruition because individual states have more power. That's also the bad thing. Though not right now, there are no great "big ideas" right now being offered up, so I'll take this instead.

“[O]ur country is being destroyed by a group of actual and potential terrorists—and they can be identified by the color of their skin.”

“I think we can safely assume that 95% of the black males in that city [Washington, D.C.] are semi-criminal or entirely criminal.”

“We are constantly told that it is evil to be afraid of black men, but it is hardly irrational.”

"If you have ever been robbed by a black teen-aged male, you know how unbelievably fleet-footed they can be."

"Blacks have "civil riqhts," preferences, set-asides for government contracts, gerrymandered voting districts, black bureaucracies, black mayors, black curricula in schools, black beauty contests, black tv shows, black tv anchors, black scholorships and colleges, hate crime laws, and public humiliation for anyone who dares question the black agenda."

"order was only restored in L.A. when it came time for the blacks to pick up their welfare checks."

"“Homosexuals, not to speak of the rest of society, were far better off when social pressure forced them to hide their activities.”

"Am I the only one sick of hearing about the 'rights' of AIDS carriers?"

And he referred to Martin Luther King, Jr. a "pro-Communist philanderer."

Paul has since confirmed that all of the above (and more) did in fact come out in his newsletter. He claims that he wasn't the author (despite the articles written in the first person, and in at least one case ending in a Christmas greeting from Paul and his wife). Even if he didn't write them, the fact that he allowed so many racist and homophobic quotes to be released under his names shows a serious lack of leadership ability.

dude, I could go out right now and write a newsletter and publish it from you... without an official seal or something it's not legit.

Everything he's ever published as his words has been quoted as him or he accepted credit. There was already a letter posted about this from an inmate that saying it was him and 8 others that wrote the newsletter.

It's old news dude... you are misinformed.

Via CNN:
http://www.cnn.com/2008/POLITICS/01/10/paul.newsletters/

"Paul said the editor of publications "is responsible for daily activities." But he also cited "transition" and "changes" and said that some people were hired to write stories "but I didn't know their names."

And THAT'S my point. Even if he DIDN'T write it, he had NO IDEA who was writing things in HIS NAME. And I can't justifying voting for a politician to run a country if he's proven he can't run his own newsletter.

whether or not a single one of those quotes is from his mouth/hand or even a thought in his head, do you really think that george bush, extremely wealthy and stupid presidents son does not think them as well, if anything ron paul was at the least being honest if the statements are true
maddingo

indeed mr gtoast,

It doesn't matter if RP wrote that nonsense or not the very fact that in the very "best" case RP was too incompetent to manage a small newsletter with His name on the top, is enough to rule him out as a viable choice to be president of the United States.

So you'd be ok with voting for a racist, just because Bush was a bad president? Wow, oooo-kay.

And for mindtrace, the above isn't saying that I think Ron wrote the letters, it's responding to Ellsswhere's assertion that it wouldn't matter if he were an outright racist, so long as he isn't GWB.

The First U.S. Congress voted to pay George Washington a salary of $25,000 a year, about $566,000 in 2007 terms. Washington, already a wealthy man, refused to accept his salary; however, he asked for his living expenses to be covered. Theodore Roosevelt spent his entire $50,000 salary on entertaining guests at the White House.[8] John F. Kennedy donated his salary to charities.[9]

Traditionally, the president is the highest-paid public employee. President Bush currently earns $400,000 per year, along with a $50,000 expense account, a $100,000 nontaxable travel account, and $19,000 for entertainment.

no no no no mang, you misunderstand, im saying that i believe that 95% of the wealthy white peeps who run our country are most likely racist and so we have a racist president right now, voting in a new president that is racist would be no different, only that he was caught in the act, by no means am i saying anyone but bush, but at the same time, how can we really move down the ladder when we are already standing on the bottom rung of the ladder

If you're referring to my "I'm voting republican" commment, I should have added "given the candidates in this election". I don't like any of the dems still running, although I did like Biden while he was still in. I'd take any republican in the running today over them, although I like some more than others. I'd have a hard time voting for Huckabee, and would probably just sit out.

The delegate count currently stands at:
Romney 72
McCain 38
Huckabee 29

I don't know if you missed this, it was big news a while back. You see, George Bush, you know the president? Well, he's already been president. Twice. And guess what?

He's not running again!

So if the best argument you have to convince me to vote for Ron Paul is "it's better than voting for Bush", you need to check your priorities again.

Spires-
I'm not disregarding an entire career in congress. Nonetheless, if he can't keep an eye on what's said in his name as a politician, how can we trust him to keep an eye on what's coming out under his name as The President of the United States.
