I just got back from the glastonbury festival in the UK and apart from music, alcohol etc there were a lot of t-shirts on sale - http://tcritic.com/archives/t-shirts-from-glastonbury-festival-07/

now this included an awful lot of threadless rip off's including "dark side of the garden" "jesus was a streaker" and "flowers in the attic". Now my question is does threadless have any responsibility to try and protect the intellectual property of the artists it prints? Are they doing anything now?

Thoughts?

Karl

they are doing something about it actually. although trying to stop this sort of thing is like pissing in the wind, unfortunately.

Yeah, agreed that you can never stop it entirely, but I was just wondering what measures you can take. I for one would be happy to snitch on people stealing designs like this.

One of the really funny things is the store owner chased me out of his tent for taking pictures claiming that I would "steal" all his designs. It was of course pointless to point out all "his" designs were stolen :-)

Threadless still make mega bucks though, so it's more of a moral issue than a financial one... I think.

Hmmm... what if it's the designer themselves who sold their designs off to various sources other than Threadless? or someone who gathered these designs and sell it off to the owners... But there'll be people who'll steal these designs and sell because there's no strict copyrights about the designs i think.
