![]() "Trending Topic" earrings from Modcloth. Must. Have. (God, I'm the biggest loser, aren't I?) I am obsessed with Twitter. It is my new love. It's a vice, probably. I don't care. I get a lot of people who scoff, and say, "Why are you there? it's so boring/pointless/etc." And it is! Unless you use it right. Here's the deal. It's not just a Facebook status update (unless you're awesome at Facebook status updates) where all your friends can update crap like "just crapped LULZ" and "eating a baked potato!!!!!" and "luv my bff, bestiies heart heart heart." That's shit's wack, yo. Ugh. Of COURSE you don't want in on that mess. It's not just to blabber topically about the latest pop culture gossip, either, even if I'm way more informed about pointless things like Lindsay Lohan and LeBron James than I ever have before because of the tranding topics (ha). Actually, you sometimes find good stuff there, too. But that's not the meat and butter. It's also not just for following your favorite brands, so they can feed you their Important Updates for the hope you'll get a 50% coupon code. That's great, but that's not what's keeping me on the site day and night. Here's the great part of twitter: if you follow the right people, it is nothing more than a humor machine. Lots of obscure comedy writers from places like Adult Swim and the Daily Show, as well as standups and everyday funnypeople use it to post jokes they couldn't otherwise use (my favorite are the too-offensive ones, of course) and to just play around. The best is when they spur each other on. I've spent evenings bantering with my friends on silly hashtags like #NPRporn and #ICKuplines (gross pickup lines, basically). I have a twitter list called "Twitters That Make Noise" for some of the silly one-off twitterbots like @shitmyducksays (modeled after now-famous twitter @shitmydadsays, which is about to become a terrible sitcom with William Shatner) and @the_vuvuzela. What happens is that your twitterstream becomes a bunch of shared inside jokes. That's stuff's been scientifically proven to set off the happy centers in your brain! I know this all makes me seem like a HUGE dork. And...well, I am. But what isn't there to love about a huge community of friendly people who make jokes to each other? I couldn't tell you. I love it all. If you want to find some of the best people to follow on twitter, you can look on my twitter list, "wit," and on the favstar.fm (a service that follows who "favs"--that is, stars--your tweets as well as who has the most favs) list, @Favstar/top-50-funny. Both of those and more can be found here. If any of you have any questions about how to navigate twitter, I'd be happy to help! By the way...I'm following everyone who gave me their twitter handles now (though, if you're boring...sorry, but I'm going to unfollow you, oh no, make some jokes)! I made y'all a "Threadlessers" list, so help me fill it up! If you'd like to follow me, I'm @CallMeQuell.
