What's the best way to make people notice you as an illustrator?
Where do you start?

Kill someone, and draw a flower on their cheek, stand by the body and say 'I did this', as a photographer takes your picture for the newspaper.

Well you already have a website, that's a good start. If you can't get work, try to look for anyone that needs some illustration work and offer your services pro bono. This will give you more practice and if people like your stuff they may refer you to other people or ask you to do another paid job for them.

Cheers. A body may be a little heavy to drag around in a portfolio tho... ;)

Do you have friends who are graphic designers? Ask them to give you advice about what they are looking for in what they need or hire for their clients - especially if they do editorial work.

you need to join the society of illustrators and the graphic designers guild. Those are two great places to start!

Not really, I did a fine arts degree, so most of the people i know are sculptors or painters. I do kind of know one person.... maybe i can hound them a bit. ;)

I'll look into the society of illustrators too, thanks!

I haven't submitted any photos. I guess I don't want free money.
