about Pinata
I haven't ordered since the new Threadless tees started being produced, so I'm a bit behind on this one. I just got my package of 7 new shirts, and one was on the new Threadless-branded "girly" tee. Here's a question: Why the hell is it so long? Unless Threadless is following the vagaries of fickle fashion (in this case, tunic-style tees) or has started producing night shirts, I have no idea why a t-shirt must reach one's crotch. And no, I don't have an abnormally stunted torso, and I'm of exactly average height.

At least I have a stockpile of Threadless AA shirts now. This makes me sad...I may never order another Threadless shirt again. I knew I was returning the shirt the moment I slipped it over my head. And as it's much more fitted at the top (which I'm okay with) I can't shrink it to alter the length. So yes, it's going back.

One more thing: please stop calling them "girly" tees. It's really patronizing. Even "girl's "would be a better alternative, considering it's sort of the opposite of "guy's". I can only assume calling the sizing "men's" and "women's" just isn't hip enough? I may not expect better from AA, but I do from threadless.

I've heard so many things about the new Threadless tees. That they are WAY too long. WAY too short. WAY too tight. WAY too loose and stretchy. WAY too thin and WAY too thick. I have no idea what to think.

Yeah, agreed. My own personal experience is that the girly (sorry, veganrabbit) M is pretty much the same length as the AA but a little more fitted around the waist.

If you want a shorter shirt, try ordering the Threadless kids. I wear a sz. 8 (fitted) - 10 (loose) in them - they're shorter and a thicker, softer cotton.

Well as long as goldie locks is happy.
I like that they're called girly tees, but I also use words like ickums, so maybe my opinion doesn't count here.

man, i feel badly for all the fuss i made about them switching t shirts and mainly the pricing that followed.
now that i have two of the new tees, i feel embarassed by my actions.

the new shirts are perfect, and you, ms blog thing, are very angry over nothing.

They are a bit long on me, but the only shirts that hemming would be a problem are ones printed towards the bottom, or belt prints etc.

Its really should not be enough to stop someone from buying the shirt
veganrabbit
veganrabbit on Mar 31 '08 at 12:15pm
@ Danielle: True, but it's a stretchy jersey that should really be serged. I don't have a serger, but I don't buy new clothes that require further alteration (for fit, at least). I sew all the time, so it's not for lack of wherewithal. But yes, I could in theory hem it.

@ olie: yup, obviously it will be different for everyone. I'm not the same shape as other folks and vice versa. But it just feels drastically long to me. I happen to think the material is very nice--soft and a bit stretchy. No complaints there. Didn't find it loose, but that's more about size than anything. It definitely fits more snugly than the same size AA shirt, though.

@jet: That's odd, same size, I assume? Maybe I got one off the "too long" run.

@shirtflirt: Whew, glad to know I've nothing to complain about. I have my health, after all.

Snark aside, I did make the post assuming that many folks are perfectly happy with the new tees. I am curious to see if others think they're oddly long, though. Apparently not.

veganrabbit
veganrabbit on Mar 31 '08 at 12:24pm
@Tracer: Fits great elsewhere, actually. I don't have enough tees that are more fitted, so that's a welcome change (though I'm also not in the camp that hated the AA fit.)

@silly: I see your point, but even if Threadless becomes cliched and tired in a year along with tunic-tees, I'd still like to wear the ones I've got.

I think they're longer than the AA tees and that makes them perfect for me. I'm a shorty mcshortshort (5' 3") and I wear the Threadless size M and it's just perfect for me. I don't like raising my arms and having people see my tummy.

according to the size charts, the girly shirts still wouldn't be long enough for my torso (because, i too want to raise my arms and keep my belly hidden by my shirt).

not saying there's anything wrong with you not liking the length of the shirts. i purchased only threadless for so long because they were the only store that had shirts that fit and if that no longer applies then i would stop shopping here. that's just me.

also, they had a blog asking what everyone thought about changing the GIRLY tag and most people thought they should keep it and not worry about a tiny detail.

Most of those, I'm sure people have said. But if anyone ever said anything about the new shirts being too thick? That's ridiculous. I know there are some people that are fine with the new shirts, especially guys. But for guys to tell girls that the new shirts fit well really doesn't mean much if the girl's used to AA and the guy's used to FOTL. I think AA worked better for more people and the new shirts are definitely alienating some from buying. While most guys see it as a step up, I think there are a lot more changes that the girls could see as either good or bad. And I see most of them as bad.

@ Kooka: HA, I like that! I'll run with it.

@shake: that was a lot of my reaction, that there were so many changes from the AA shirts. The collar, the fit, the material, the length. I'm actually okay with all the changes but the length (not a huge fan of the collar, but it's subtle enough). I'm glad I'm not the only one who hasn't totally fallen in love with the new shirts.

@chelly: funny about the girly tag, though I'm not surprised. Obviously some folks think I'm having female hysterics, but words matter. As for the fit etc., I think my complaint stems from disappointment. If I don't like the one fit available (though as Berry pointed out there's always Kids) then I won't be shopping here anymore, which sucks because I love so many of the designs.

veganrabbit- I also think the new girl shirts are too long for me. I'm 5' 4 and they fit fine except for the length which sucks because I really like a few of the shirts that came out this week:(

cristinaish on Mar 31 '08 at 6:03pm
i'm so conflicted about the new shirts. i don't like the huge neckhole. i don't like how it bunches up in the armpit/shoulder/chest area (there's like a bunch of extra fabric in this area, it seems ... it's noticeable in some pics. and with my flat chest.). and i haaaaaaaaaate how huge the sleeves are. i know guys used to complain about "wings" from the FOTL tees, and now i think the girls have those wings on the custom tees.

but one thing i do like, however, is the length and the "curve" of the waist area. the AA tees would always bunch up around my waist because of both my hips and the boxy shape of the AA tees, and i'd have to constantly pull it down. i don't have that problem with the new tees, thankfully.

as for not being able to shrink the length. i don't think that's necessarily true. i shrunk a custom girly medium (i usually wear small) and it shrunk significantly in length. not so much in width, but i can deal.

berrynoir
berrynoir on Mar 31 '08 at 6:54pm
Ok, just did a comparison of my girly M AA's and the new Threadless girly M:
The Threadless shirts are longer by a couple inches.
Whereas the AA shirts hit my hips, the Threadless shirts do extend all the way down over the butt. And snug too - so you have a rather tight tee around your ass.
I'm 5'4 and about 110lbs if that helps.
Also worth noting, out of the 3 new Threadless shirts I've ordered, one has a hole in it and all three are slightly different in the shoulders/arms/chest area. They are also rather see-though in lighter colors. Haven't washed 'em yet....
phyntosia
phyntosia on Apr 01 '08 at 10:49pm
Hmm, I'm a bit worried to hear about this... I have one Threadless tee and one more on the way, but the one I have is perfect - it's a light colour, but not particularly see-through, and not too long for me either (and I have a shorter than average torso).

The only difference I've noticed is that the new size is a little bit looser, which is fine - a bit more space for the boobs I don't have, which doesn't bother me and is probably a bit nicer for the girls who do! I think it is a little tighter around the butt, but not uncomfortably or badly so; just means it's a little snug and fitting on my jeans, which I think is more flattering. But I have a nice butt, so that could just be me ;)

Or maybe don't dry it in hot water, but if you dry it in the dryer that should work too.

Just my two cents, could be wrong. ;)

veganrabbit,

I shortened a t-shirt by running 2 rows of straight stitching about a quarter inch from the new raw edge, turning it up, and finishing with a blind machine hem. I looks fine. I agree that these t's ought to be serged, but this print is far to beautiful to just return!
