what's with the war on text on shirts? why do so many people hate it when there's text on shirts?

i mean is there a reason or is it just purely a common opinion?

i think text, when done well, can really enhance a shirt's character, but so many people disagree it makes me feel like i'm missing something...

That is the general opinion. It's just that most text is not done very well.

When a shirt is done well it doesn't need the text.

A good designer can convey the message purely through their design.

Because most people dont understand typography enough to do it well in the medium of shirt design, so if it is done at all it needs to be done well, which, in most cases, it isn't.

alexandra that's a really good point, i guess most shirts that have text only have it because they need it - which they shouldn't, necessarily.
