I just sent skinnycorp this email

Love what you guys are doing with threadless. Its amazing and I'm sure you know that. But I am noticing that since I have joined there have been some great artists that have come along and subbed some really amazing designs, just to have it dropped early or get a low-deserving score. It seems there's a whole counter-culture going on at threadless with great designs but no love...and a smaller, but strong following of people who love the artsy type subs.

The selects are great but I think its time you guys started a whole new subsite for select type shirts. The new subsite would be for more artsy, experimental, inventive shirts. Maybe only release 3 limited edition shirts a week at a fair price. I think $17-$20 would keep most people happy and coming back for more.

I would be willing to start a petition to have artists/bloggers sign up for the subsite. I have a whole list of designers in my notebook that I would love to see put something on a tshirt (I actually wrote these out for my own business venture someday, but would love to see you guys do this first) and also know of a lot of devoted bloggers that go for this type of style.

what do you guys think?
I would love to start my own site like this, but it would have to wait a few years til i'm done with school. I know threadless could do a great job with it.

You confused me on the username switch, I thought someone stole your idea at first.

But everything is worded very well. I think this idea might be going places.

Also, I own your shirt.

So would this hypothetical subsite use the same voting system as the regular site? Or...something else?

How would the shirts be chosen? I'm kind of confused.

yessa masta kayce, back to my old account with the other minions haha

the subsite would have a seperate submission and voting page. it would help weed out the people who arent interested in artsy shirts.
exoticrobotic
exoticrobotic on Jul 23 '07 at 8:24pm
the shirts could be chosen by threadless. I know they just hired UPSO for selects, so he could get in on this action.

Cactus Pirate Jr. on Jul 23 '07 at 8:27pm
But wouldn't the same people who give 0's to the great designs on here still be able to vote on the subsite?

I agree with Cactus P on this one.

exoticrobotic
exoticrobotic on Jul 23 '07 at 8:30pm
yeah they would be able to vote on the subsite, but it would be set up kind of like threadlesskids.com

only parents probably vote on threadlesskids, and only people that are into artsy shirts would vote on the new subsite

on a side note...listen to the song "too many tshirts" by prizzy prizzy please brought to my attention on shimala's new video

and what's artsy and what's not?

Kids designs are much easier to pick I think.

Problematic...

I like the idea of a home for some of the design that get blasted by the voters, but I don't think it should be up to threadless to make this happen.

I've got a couple ways that this could work.

It would be a membership site and the members would nominate a design then the members would decide which one to print. Then we would print 150 shirts, once we have sold enough shirts to put another shirt in production we would start the process over again. All the profits after production cost would go to the artist.

lets say we had 40 members and all you need to be in is 25 bucks that's 1000 for production then the rest go to the artist. This website would not be a business it would be more of a t-shirt club, not out to make a profit just out to get really unique t-shirts.

Mike4507
Mike4507 on Jul 23 '07 at 10:28pm
I like that idea Edword.

The only problem is whoever was running it would have to have resources to printers, shirts, etc.

Threadless has all those resources.

i love the idea edword - you da man - 5$ to your idea
Edword
   Edword on Jul 23 '07 at 10:36pm
thanks isaboa .

Mike4507 - that kind of stuff is not hard to get. I can get AA for wholesale that would be drop shipped at the printer. mammoth print shop has a rep with alot of the artist that have self printed so we could go with them. then they would be shipped to the artist and they would be in charge of shipping them out to customers.

yea i've thought of that too, might be something cool to do :)

maybe we could focus on that instead

I think it would be great! step one would be getting Organized.
exoticrobotic
exoticrobotic on Jul 23 '07 at 10:59pm
yeah, big step haha

but this could turn into something neat

do you have aim edword?
Edword
   Edword on Jul 23 '07 at 10:59pm
ISABOA- you need a drying system to get the ink to set right, there are some airing inks but I wouldn't trust them. I'd rather leave the screen printing to the pros but it would be fun to fool around with.
Edword
   Edword on Jul 23 '07 at 11:01pm
no I'm not on aim:(

we could set up a blogger blog or something. we could call it "project tee"

What about if the Threadless Selects weren't just for alumni designers? I think Threadless should instead invite those with the unique aesthetic to get printed.
Edword
   Edword on Jul 23 '07 at 11:16pm
right! this would pretty much be DYI you know low overhead to maximize the profits for the artist. We could do a sign up on the blog and just use paypal to get the first wave of members.
exoticrobotic
exoticrobotic on Jul 23 '07 at 11:16pm
they invite people outside of threadless too
Edword
   Edword on Jul 23 '07 at 11:16pm
Myxxoma - they do.
