i dont know what it has to do with progress
titz
titz on May 24 '06 at 12:59pm
well its pretty literal, the idea is that, we need take what we know about the obstacles we’ve over come in our past and use then to over come the obstacles of our future.
stabilo boss
stabilo boss on May 24 '06 at 1:00pm
we're supposed to guess that?
titz
titz on May 24 '06 at 1:01pm
i guess i dont see how with a little thought one couldnt see the emaning, i guess im wrong.
titz
titz on May 24 '06 at 1:02pm

Frank Vice
Frank Vice on May 24 '06 at 1:02pm
Ya, I don't think that's really clear at all
spires
   spires on May 24 '06 at 1:02pm
cube seems transparent, as if this man is an ice deliverer. I would not glean what you explained from this graphic.

I like the image.
titz
titz on May 24 '06 at 1:03pm
oh c'mon, its like a video game... you just gotta figure out how to beat the next level.
titz
titz on May 24 '06 at 1:04pm
man, it sall there, you can see the other side but just cant get there.
Frank Vice
Frank Vice on May 24 '06 at 1:04pm
I get what you're saying about it, but I don't think anyone would get it without explanation
titz
titz on May 24 '06 at 1:05pm
no one wants to think on this site.
titz
titz on May 24 '06 at 1:06pm
its had type on it that said 'PROGRESS' in perspective, want me to put that back up?
spires
   spires on May 24 '06 at 1:07pm
I thought about it, but the question mark makes me assume that he is wondering what is on top of a possible refrigerator, which makes me think of ice, and thus my last comment.

It would be a nice conversation starter, as it could elicit numerous interpretations.
Frank Vice
Frank Vice on May 24 '06 at 1:08pm
I guess I don't see how either of those objects are "obstacles" when he could just walk around them
titz
titz on May 24 '06 at 1:09pm
omg. its a shirt dude.
titz
titz on May 24 '06 at 1:10pm
when i said literal i meant in meaning not space and time.
Frank Vice
Frank Vice on May 24 '06 at 1:10pm
because it's a shirt, you need to get across your meaning instantly, people don't have time to sit there staring at it trying to figure it out. It's a lot like advertising
spires
   spires on May 24 '06 at 1:11pm
I agree with Frank.
Dan-O
Dan-O on May 24 '06 at 1:12pm
It looks cool, I'll say that much.

And I prefer the blue.
titz
titz on May 24 '06 at 1:12pm
no, advertising has several hundred applications, now if youre referring to print advertising you should refer to magazines or billboards which both have widely different time spans to catch a viewers attention, this is a shirt, i wear shirts i like, not shirts i want other people to like that sell them shit.
titz
titz on May 24 '06 at 1:15pm
commitment to an idea is much more important. s

pires i see your trying to get some feedback on your new idea, its fuckin great, you know why, cause i can tell you have some deep meaning behind why you chose to design it.
Frank Vice
Frank Vice on May 24 '06 at 1:15pm
As for advertising I was referring to billboards mostly.

As for shirts you like... this site has a voter system and if you don't try to appeal to the masses you have no chance in hell of getting a shirt made. That being said, if you just want to show your creativity, that's cool, I agree it's a fun thing to do, just don't expect people to rate it very highly.
titz
titz on May 24 '06 at 1:17pm
yea i guess back to the drawing board for some silloette birds and animals screwing.
spires
   spires on May 24 '06 at 1:18pm
You are attempting to sell this shirt to others, which means that others should understand it. A major charm of t-shirts is wit, which implies brevity; this site in particular is fabulous because largely, art is married to wit creating both intriguing and aesthetically pleasing pieces.

This has the aesthetic appeal, but I fear the wit is lacking. It does have a cryptic sort of intrigue, but not impact.

Just my opinion.

ok so lets think, maybe the guy should have just beating up a little girl and now has to face her hug older brother... how can he throw the little girl at the big brothe rto defeat hime.
titz
titz on May 24 '06 at 1:21pm
i g ues smy thing is that this could work on serveral levels, if this isnt the application what is?
Frank Vice
Frank Vice on May 24 '06 at 1:23pm
This might work on a poster... Gives you more time to think
titz
titz on May 24 '06 at 1:25pm
i meant applying the idea of using our past to solve the problems of our future to another senario.
shirtflirt
shirtflirt on May 24 '06 at 1:27pm
theres no way anyone would arrive at the conclusion your driving at, titz.its just not that clear.
Frank Vice
Frank Vice on May 24 '06 at 1:30pm
Another scenario? hmm...

I don't know, it's a tough one...

I appreciate your comments regarding my design, titz.

Thanks for mentioning it.
Ste7en
   Ste7en on May 24 '06 at 1:34pm
uh...I didnt read half of the comments, but when I look at it I say "hey he could put that small cube into the hole in the big cube...except...why would he do that? what does it accomplish? why is he near cubes, why doesnt he walk around them? are they ice? wouldnt ice melt on a hot red shirt?

titz on May 24 '06 at 1:34pm
no doubt, posted new version w/ type.
titz
titz on May 24 '06 at 1:35pm
well he would then be able to get over "it", being the obstacle that we all have in our lives, just have to find out what it means for you.
spires
   spires on May 24 '06 at 1:36pm
Perhaps if he was somehow bound to the larger block, it would represent and impasse.
Frank Vice
Frank Vice on May 24 '06 at 1:36pm
The word progress makes me think of something political..

for example, I could see a shirt with the word "Progress?" and have it showing a black man still stuck in a low-level job, or a woman still dressed as a house-wife, something like that, but I don't really think of progress as a word that would be used to mean putting a block in a hole
spires
   spires on May 24 '06 at 1:37pm
Or perhaps if he was frozen inside of it, and only his hand was free, through that hole cut from the larger block.
spires
   spires on May 24 '06 at 1:37pm
an impasse*
titz
titz on May 24 '06 at 1:39pm
spres, thats interesting.
spires
   spires on May 24 '06 at 1:40pm
I'm glad if you find it useful.
Ste7en
   Ste7en on May 24 '06 at 1:40pm
what im asking is...why wouldnt he put his foot in the hole and step over it if he needs to climb it...the hole represents nothing that can be interpreted logically...filling the hole wouldnt visually accomplish any task that the viewer would notice- some holes arent even meant to be filled- so why would the viewer think it accomplished anything in a metaphorical way?

The design isnt poorly drawn, and the idea you have is good, but the design doesnt demonstrate the idea well enough in my oppinion
Frank Vice
Frank Vice on May 24 '06 at 1:40pm
that might just be seen as a david blaine reference haha
titz
titz on May 24 '06 at 1:46pm
well atleast we're thinking about it now. david blaine, ha.

must have.

As I said before and say agaaaain...

The composition is unbalanced. It's a lot heavier on the right than on the left. Fix this by moving the guy over to the left a bit more.

I like the text, but I think it would work better if it were three dimentional, like the boxes.
titz
titz on May 24 '06 at 2:03pm
it is and was, an dif the guy moves over he isnt inline with the perspective...
titz
titz on May 24 '06 at 2:04pm
furthermore if by balance you are only considering the left to right then sure, but top to bottom its very balanced.
