Whether it is a successful slogan or one that hangs on for dear life, it might be better to sketch out a visual for your blog readers.

Know some designers? Ask for help in creating visual ideas for yor favorite slogans. It might be the key to victory.

Butterfly Afro - Threadless, Best T-shirts Ever
Butterfly Afro By travers

Despite some of the negative comments I have seen about Butterfly Afro I am going to press forward into positives. I like this design because it brings me back to old R&B album covers that I loved as a kid.

Growing up around families that played Al Green, Curtis Mayfield, Earth Wind and Fire, and of course Parliament Funkadelic …the shirt design becomes successful for specific audiences that love retro wear and art.

This shirt is reminiscent of black velvet posters and album covers with Afros, “fisted” afro picks and dark skin toned figures, which were always around my house during my childhood days as posters and framed artwork. This is a shirt my mom and grandma would wear.

Mom and grandma…? So that makes it un-cool right? No not really. Because they were living in a time when soul power was number one. To them and me it means something more than a shirt needing scores for print. It is a design that is “right on.” For the image of curvaceous caramel colored girls that are unique, independent, and creative.

Right now, I could totally see Jill Scott or Erika Badou wearing this for that reason. It boasts sister-hood and girl power. Its organic representation of what a woman might be is seen by the use of color and dominant focus of the face. The hair breaking away into butterflies is a nice touch. Letting the brown return in the bright white eyes is another element that commands attention like many sisters I know.

Thanks “travers” for bringing me back in time.

Hey there
.............thanks for stopping by.

I have been frequenting Threadless for a short time. I love the site and submissions. I am grateful that I can start wearing cooler t-shirts. Yesssssssssssssssssssssssssssss!

I think the reason why this site is so cool is because more and more traditional artists are taking time to make good design for wear.

Be sure to check out some reviews around Threadless for more on that. Color, perspective, type and more.
