Whether it is a successful slogan or one that hangs on for dear life, it might be better to sketch out a visual for your blog readers.

Know some designers? Ask for help in creating visual ideas for yor favorite slogans. It might be the key to victory.

A few quick ideas of mine....

but I would like to see what you have in mind when you think of of your favorites.

Post them here if you wish or drop off your link.

full time job...I can relate to the time crunch

I usually use my lunch hour, kids bed time, or nearby coffee shop after work for fun art.

..if the idea can't wait, I put postit notes on my wallet

i think if you have to do this to promote your slogan, then it probably isn't strong enough in the first place.

its always crunch time at my job, i can barely get away from my desk to take lunch. ugh!

the joys of being a pixel pusher aye!!!!?

i can't even imagine if i had kids! being in a relationship soaks up a lot of my extra time. i really miss designing for myself!

i don't necessarily agree with that.(bananaphone) i think graphics help sell, makes it more interesting.

the disdain for text in submissions and the general acceptance of type tees is deliciously hypocritical.

Though, your slogans have design elements to them, so they're technically designs (albeit slogan run designs)

I see what quoo is trying to say... some slogans are easier to understand and are more effective if the creator can design the type to give the words emphasis or emotion.

i don't think this is about promotion as much as a new form of presenting slogan submissions.

unfortunately, many community members like submitting only text for various reasons.

Yes - design elements are added (for fun of course)

but...what if?

1. What if more ideas are generated from these first sketches? Making them more than Type Tee submissions

2. What if a response generates a blog responder to post these sketches as type only.

Why put barriers on artistic ideas? If one thinks "I can't" or "I shouldn't" right away, it may hinder the potential of a successful Design submission or Type Tee submission.

Basically the creativity is unlimited?

So I say visually brainstorm and run with it.

if youre going to do all that you might as well submit them to the regular contest as well.

I disagree Threadless already is adding flourishes and special fonts into the mix -- I think some of Q's go a bit far and might be closer to an art piece here - but the Monday God one is a great example of how using only 1 font and color you can push the message further. We use inflections in our own voices while speaking and I feel this stregthens that concept for the shirts.

Again, these are just sketches. With help, comments, etc - one may turn into a submission.

...but until then, have fun!

(even if the slogan run isn't going so well)

Thanks BasicShift

I am aware my examples have extra additives, but I do this to get out all of my ideas about my slogan and how I envision it. (Even though these are for type tees first)

I do this mostly to create mood, or invoke emotion for reviews.

The Chopsticks design added a single element - minus that- it's just type. Same with Beer Gut. These elements could be removed. But maybe with a little help from the forum, I would consider making it for the basic submission.

Maybe a reviewer would say - "hey it would be funny if you showed a belly with trap doors on it, revealing a keg on the inside"

That sort of response might inspire more responses and details for submissions. Or maybe not.

Either way - it doesn't hurt to be more commercial in presentation sometimes. It is obvious Threadless fans are extremely creative, so why not exploit that side?

you could just as easily submit these to threadless as designs and skip the whole slogan process. you've basically taken the "middle man"/designer out of the process by also designing something to go along with the words.

and they look pretty cool!

I see Q's predicament though here...

It would be interesting to see how they score with the general voter. Not usre if there are more people seeking "art" or seeking "message" -- or if it truly has to be the perfect blend of both....

my guess is these would be too "message" only for the general public when compared against the large number of art subs... but I dont really know...

Ok now I am confused.

"Fractions Speak Louder than Nerds" doesn't have art elements?

It seems like people do not like type tees in general, but with the small extras, it does give it a boost.

If these were basic submissions (we all know) they would be shredded to pieces because it has text.

I like the idea of mixing a little of both.

It might be part of the selected font. But I do like how it adds something extra

i agree..especially as a struggling sloganist. text has no chance against the designs and rightfully so, but almost no slogans are strong enough to warrant printing. seriously, i wouldnt wear any of my own slogans, and i think they're genius....but, add a little, minimal design and i would honestly consider spending some scrilla on some slogans.
