you know you've got it bad when you're not even fully dressed for school yet and you think, "wow, i wonder what's going on the threadless blogs."

and then you take 15 minutes to sit down and check them out.

lame.

also, why is it that no one ever sends me text messages except for my ex-boyfriend? i like getting texts, and i think i would like it a lot more if they weren't all from him.

and i would really enjoy not sitting in spanish for two hours this morning.

sooo.

i'm a poor college student, and in the past i've only purchased one shirt at a time. however, with this back to school sale, i will most likely break that trend. so, i was wondering what the best way to go about it would be. i would really like to make each shirt a different order, so i could share some stp love, buuuuuut it seems to be a little ridiculous to pay all that extra shipping when it would probably be a lot cheaper to have them all shipped together.

and so i bring my problem to you, threadless bloggers. what is a cheap, but ever so kind girl to do?

the other day i was having a conversation at the mall with a total stranger named ... i can't remember his name. it started with a d, though. we were discussing politics, and he asked why i thought a candidate from a third party would never be elected president. i replied that it was simply a matter of funding. he conceded that funding did have an impact, but he believed the main reason was because a third party candidate wasn't reliable enough. with a candidate from a major party, the public has a pretty good idea of where they stand because of their party affiliation, and if the candidate breaks from that particular line, or if they seriously screw up, they have a larger, more powerful entity to answer to. d, or whatever the heck his name was, stated that it was this insurance that kept the two party system so powerful.

this seems to be a valid enough point. however, i have been thinking about this a lot lately, and i come to the conclusion that it goes deeper.

our country and government, while multi-cultural, was founded on judaeo-christian values and ideals, and most of our citizens are in line with this particular school of thought. this particular belief system places a lot of weight on the idea of good vs. evil, black vs. white, light vs. the dark, god vs. satan, etc. many people also interpret the old testament as not recognizing the grey area of life, like when god ordered abraham to kill his son. it was excruciating for abraham to come to the decision to kill his son, but he was prepared to do it because god asked him to. god rewards abraham for his decision to "follow god" and kill his son, and does not recognize or validate the thought process he went through to come to this point.

as a result of this type of outlook being ingrained in our culture, our society likes to be able to turn one person into a villain and make a hero out of the other, so our bible-given ideals of good vs. evil are satisfied by a two party system. this also makes the pre-voting thought process easier, because, like abraham, we feel rewarded for final decision, and the thought process is once again viewed as trivial.

however, i do believe that with the rise of technology, the two party system's days are numbered because so much more information is available to the public. i suppose i'll have to just wait and see.
