Hey Threadless!

I'm Brock, and I've recently joined the staff here at Threadless as User Experience Director. What's that mean? Basically that I'm going to help make the site more useful and usable - no small challenge for a site that is already awesome.

The most important part of the site (and my job) is you. And that's why I'm here, I want to know what you think.

First up... the Participate section, more specifically, scoring.

How would you improve scoring of submissions?
What's working? what's not?
Do you have ideas on how to make scoring easier?
How about ways to make it more accurate?

Have at it below...

P.S. - There will be plenty of opportunity for feedback on other parts of the site, so please save ideas that aren't about scoring.

Hey Brock! Welcome. :)

As far as ideas, I would just say that I sometimes find it difficult to designate a number to an impression (1 thru 5), when scoring.

2, 1, and 0 especially. It's easy to tell when I love something, but when I don't like it, I feel like I'm just deciding based on how much I like their profile pic.

I think scoring is fine, it's worked fine for the last 10 years, so why change it?

Unless it's causing an issue your end that us meagre community members can't see?

First off, I would take 0-4 out as scoring options on my designs.

staffell
   staffell on Apr 19 '10 at 5:21pm
Actually, I think you should offer an incentive for people to score designs. 3 STP every 1000 designs scored (for example).

hi, brock! as for scoring, i love, love, love powerscore. woo! i think this has been mentioned before, but a little box saying what the numbers mean (0 being terrible, 5 being outstanding) would be pretty helpful for new scorers.

This. Although some people might just sit there and press "4" until they have enough stps for a free shirt. I'm not naming names.

An iPhone friendly version of the site.

At the moment you can't view Flash subs at all if you're using an iPhone. But since we're all required to submit a JPG of the design anyway, can the site be configured so people can still view and score designs on the go? I'm on my phone ALL the time, especially when I'm on the train, and I'd be a lot more likely to vote if I can see what I'm voting on.

One, there would be a crap ton of people that wouldn't even score the designs and just press 0 until they got enough points to buy a shirts.

and second i think threadless gives enough to the community, and asking for more is ridiculous. they have so many incentives for everything, and free give aways on thursdays and stuff... I think people need to stop being so damn greedy and give some instead of take.

The power score - it is great, but when you make a comment, it goes to a blank screen. Super irritating. You have to then go to the blogs to fins the submission so you can score it, and restart the power score

Always thought a threadless scoring widget would be cool (that you can bring up from your mac's/windows dashboard), could easily increase votings (something à la powerscore but accessed with one mouse-click, might take away people from actually visiting the site itself though)

Errr, that's not me asking for more, that was a *suggestion* for how to improve the scoring system, no need to get so uppity! Hell I don't care about STP, I don't even use them.

Think about this - how long does it take to score 1000 designs? In the scheme of things - a long time...and for a measly 3 STP, those kinds of people who are so desperate for such a small amount of credit wouldn't even be inclined to sit there mindlessly clicking the same number over and over again because their attention span wouldn't last more than a few minutes.

On the other hand, it would provide a tiny incentive to those who are actually interested in giving honest scores to designs. Hey, how about making it 5000 designs for 3 STP - even the tiniest of incentives would make people participate more in the scoring side of things.

Of course I agree with this, but I also think there is an inbalance in distribution on threadlesses part (think $20,000 prizes).

Hello, new guy!

I don't mind the scoring process much, but I'd like the Powerscore to be worked on to make it quicker and more convenient. Mainly I was thinking maybe a key I can press for "I'd buy it", and the comment box to be at the top, under the design, so I wouldn't have to scroll down to comment. Just anything to keep me from using a mouse. Powerscore is pretty convenient, but as I see it now, it's just a regular scoring page except you can press the number keys to score. Maybe even take out others' comments so that all there is is the design, comment box, and the score system. And I don't think flash presentations work in the Powerscore page.

I think Powerscore has revolutionized things - it's great :D

I agree. I know there's 6 on powerscore for 5 and $ but sometimes I want to 4 and $ a design, or 3 and $ a design...

How about ways to make it more accurate?

Maybe you can't score a 5 if you haven't been on Threadless for a certain number of months... I know it's a bit draconian but i think there can be issues with people recruiting everyone they know to vote 5's and whether those people will actually buy the printed tee is another matter.

Hopefully this is the right or somewhat right blog to post this in, but I think it would be cool if there was a score breakdown after a sub is don't scoring. Like showing how many I'd buy it's and how many 5's, 4's, and so on were given.
