I've always enjoyed seeing the rough sketches and visual records of different people's experiences and work. In fact, sometimes I find the raw illustrations more compelling than their finished products.

Would love to see more! So feel free to share your sketches whether they be related to Threadless or your own personal visual diary or even just a scribble on scrap paper.

Sorry for going M.I.A. for a couple of days... time is an elusive bugger sometimes. Thanks for sharing these though!

Evan - I understand, man. Keep it up if you can though - it's hard to beat a tangible piece of work, even if it is just a scribble.

Esta - you always manage to express a lot of character and movement in your figures, even in their simplicity. Nice work! :-)

Randy - get some pen to paper then, mate!

Lucas - great perspective in the street POV sketch, man. Plus the light and shade in the superhero one is awesome too. Cheers for sharing.

Terry - I dig the bold black & white style. Definite impact there. I can empathise with the use of the whole page. I use to limit myself to just one page but have recently begun covering the full sketchbook spread. You working on a comic there or is it just whatever comes to mind?

Eric - fair enough. I guess you don't need to for your work!

Jeff - HAH!!! You know so much better than that, mate...

Alright, here's just a couple of recent pages from my moleskine... I've really become addicted in the past months, getting stuck into my sketchbook everyday.

My sketches are flat out embarrassing, showing people is like giving a job interviewer a handwritten limerick for a resume.

Citizen, those "goofy characters" rock. Keep it up!

Cheers, Jeff! No stress about emailing and all... I'm the worst. Don't want it to be a chore, so whenever is fine, mate.

Never underestimate a handwritten limerick for a resume, Hippo! ;-)

Gah, there is so much talent in this blog. I feel bad for not having a sketchbook on the go.
francobolli
   francobolli on Nov 07 '11 at 6:20am
I used to feel the same, Kimby. You should try to get into it if you really feel inclined... even if it's just one drawing a week... however small, making a start is better than not. I remember being so unbelievably anxious about wasting paper feeling that perhaps my drawings were not good enough or worthwhile enough for it. Hastily scribbling in defiance to inhibition and expectations has helped... it's quite funny what can hinder us at times. Let's see a sketch from you here sometime. :-)
stubby43
stubby43 on Nov 07 '11 at 4:12pm
Kimby, I havent drawn anything from scratch in years, I lost my confidence with drawing back when I was 14 because of school.

This is the first time I've drawn anything without tracing, its not amazing but its a start, so I guess what I'm trying to say is just do it.
Goldendust
Goldendust on Nov 08 '11 at 4:16am
I stopped having a sketchbook around the same time I finished studying... which was probably a mistake. I do sit down and sketch from time to time, but I burn through the paper without making anything substantial, and it's a pretty infrequent thing anyway.

Trying to put stuff together in a book would probably help with that... but like Simon said, I hate that anxiety that comes with messing up a page.
francobolli
   francobolli on Nov 09 '11 at 2:19am
There shouldn't be shame in not keeping a sketchbook regularly... but I'd argue it really does help your creative psyche evolve because, for most, you're doing it for nobody but yourself. I'd really recommend just scribbling any old nonsense or creative whim. Eventually you'll have a breakthrough and find yourself some place new or at least you'll just stop caring so much about the anxiety of messing up pages... I think I'm somewhere in the middle now. Haha.
