The Threadless loves Threadless competition threw out a challenge to create something new, something fresh, something original . With such a highly subjective objective, it was always going to be an impossible task to create a design that everyone would like. Consequently, this competition saw a huge number of diverse entries, each with their own take on the themeless theme, and produced a heap of awesome and very printable designs.

My take on the challenge was to push the boundaries of the print restrictions, like the size and in particular the 4 colour rule. I had a shot at the size with Surfers Paradise, but it turned out I was lucky to get the design accepted in the first place, let alone considered for a print, because of the size issue. Psychedelic Peacock was my attempt to push the limitations of the 4 colour rule in an original way, and I feel I did so.

Whether or not you believe the Peacock is deserving of the win is left up to debate - a futile one as we have seen so far. As much as I would have loved to have fulfilled everyone's expectations of this competition, I'm afraid all I could do within reason was aim to fulfill mine, which I happily did. Needless to say, I'm incredibly stoked other people, not to mention Threadless, appreciate and enjoy the design. A huge thank you to Threadless and everyone for the kind comments and support for the design. I hope you enjoy the tee!

Cheers,

Simon

Congrats. At first I wasn't crazy about the design.. but the more I look at it the more I see what you were doing with the tail feathers which was really cool.

Oh well... I'm sad I didn't win since I really wanted a Mac (and winning one is about the only way I'd get one in the apartment since my fiancee is adamently PC)... but I'm glad that you won too since you design was cool.

I'll be buying one :)

Surfer's Paradise would have been an awesome print if you went with the non-colored sky...

I totally agree with realslimnatey... Simon's a hotter Bob Dylan, but I do see the resemblance.

Anyway, congratulations! I'll probably buy it along with whatever I'm interested in for today's batch. I think it was your use of the color palette and tight design for the feathers in the tail that made them overrride the "no birds" and "no oversized animal thing." Enjoy your loot!

I think it's a very very beautiful design. Somehow it reminds me of those lamps and decorations and things from France back a hundred years ago. It's a good decoration, but it's strong rather than frilly.

It would be fun to be able to see it in person, just to see how all the colors work.

Its the same every week, competition or not, some people piss and moan that a shirt got printed and refuse to let go, others want the same shirt reprinted continually. Never going to see an end to the cycle.
Congrats, enjoy your prize, whether other people agree or not doesn't matter, there will be something else for them to poke holes in next week, in fact given that there are more shirts being put up today and tomorrow they will have started on someone else by the start of the day.
Still think Gef has stolen your thunder in the pic though:)

congrats on winning the prize.

while the shirt hasn't been selling very well (i'm sure you realize the overall response wasn't that positive, although you will find your fans here in this thread; ), i agree that it does push some boundaries and your explanation is appreciated. enjoy all your new goodies

I don't recall what I gave it, but I scored the design high. I do like the design, and I do think it deserves to be printed, I just don't know if it jives in my mind with the theme of the contest. I can live with it myself, the other loves comps have in general left me very disappointed, I don't feel that way here. Personally, I really would like to see Threadless take some more chances and I thought this was that opportunity.

In any case, congrats on your win. It's a good design and very clever use of color.

Exigent, I appreciate the honesty. It's funny you should bring up the subject itself, because I originally planned on doing this technique with a leopard. Would have loved to have been able to do it, but it was simply far too hard to complete in the limited time I had to finish it - I only had a few days to do this as I was heading out to the bush. The Peacock I thought would be a good substitute as the effect really mirrored the look of a peacock's tail feathers. Perhaps I will give the leopard a shot again when I can muster up the drive to put my eyes and brains through the incredibly tedious task of making that effect... hehe. :-)

Andrew, mate come over and we'll plot an Aussie take over of Threadless! :-)

Dale, great to see another Brisbanite on here! Where are ya studying?

And to everyone else, a huge thanks for all the comments. Really appreciate it!

And bloody oath, the prize pack is certainly nothing to complain about. ;-)
