Yikes. What a crazy movie. I was very confused at the end. But it was very good.

But my brain hurts. I need to go to bed.

hello teacher tell me, what's my lesson...look right through me, look right through me...

I rewatched that movie recently...I'd forgotten how good it is. Also, how scary Frank is.

I had to read what the heck had happened on Wikipedia the first time I saw it. But it's a marvellous movie.

Mad World is one of my favorite songs too!! Donnie Darko is definitely one of those crazy movies that are completely great!

I think on the DVD extras they interview the guy who ends up being Frank and he is sketched out it was from some sort of contest or something....

That guy has had an odd career.
Donnie Darko.
Bubble Boy
then BrokeBack Mountain.

And also in one of the eight comet disaster movies of the late 90's as a plucky young science type thing or guy or something i think.

Donnie Darko is an amazing film, truly a movie that stays one step ahead of you like the one armed man fleeing from the fugitive, but in the best way possible because the payoffs go from amusing to incredible to utterly fascinating to thoughtful silence of you staring in shock at the end credits, your mind racing in a million directions making connections and figuring out the story.

Also, the original score AND the 80's soundtrack are both amazing.

such a good movie.

it's about time travel and/or can we change our destinys?

If no one's mentioned it, this is a very neat interactive Donnie Darko website: http://www.donniedarkofilm.com/

It explains more about the movie... kind of.
El_Dictador_Cubano
El_Dictador_Cubano on Dec 13 '07 at 12:20am
shirtflirt, i think it was more about our destiny vs choice. Time travel was the tool used to give Donnie the choice to go back.

If you know what will happen in the future, you have the ability to choose against that destiny, like the teacher guy explained.

Also i love how donnie got over his fear of dying alone. And the ending with the children waving to Donnie's mother like they somehow have done this before. And Donnie's conversation with the rabbit in the movie theater. And the cellar door comversation. And the Asian girl who screams "chut up!" which my friend took to saying to me every time i answered my phone with him on the other line for months afterwards. And like everything else about this movie.

Also, possibly one of the best lines ever uttered:

You know, sometimes i question your devotion to Sparkle Motion!

O crapzors Kayce! You should stab them in the heart with a toothpick over and over again if you find out who did it. My favorite was when i was in college and one of the dudes down the hall from me borrowed and lost my Demon Knight VHS tape (man, that is such an underrated horror movie), and when i asked for the money or another copy of the tape, he smiled at me all tooth-like and replied, "man...i ain't got 15 ones right now!" And that was that. And i couldn't do anything about it because he would have turned me inside out rectum first. Then i stopped loaning my movies out to people bigger than me.

the crazy lady in love with Jim Cunningham and Sparkle Motion (haha *gag*), who was also in Little Miss Sunshine, is one of the most inexplicably abhorrent characters to cross the screen. She was just... so... unlikeable!

I also haz directorz cut!!! It's so much better. Easier to understand.

My favourite part is when he goes in to kiss her and she stops him, and he's like, "Oh, I get it. I know you want it to be at a time when you're reminded of how beautiful the world can be."

And she's like, "Yeah. And right now there's a fat guy over there watching us."

I was obsessed with this movie freshman year in college, I showed it to every friend I had and made new friends by screening it in the dorm.

"What will I do if you tell mom?"
"You'll put Ariel in the garbage disposal"
"Gd right I will..."

We had a girl at our school that looked just like Charita (the girl that says "chut up") should would really get on people's nerves and for a while everytime she got up to do a presentation most of the kids in the back would say "Get off the stage Charita!!!"

Frick - You where thinking of Day after Tommorow, where Jake Gylinahll was the son of the seasoned old scientist nobody would listen to. That movie had a chase scene where they where outrunning frost. FROST. I'm glad I saw that one in the city where everyone was laughing and yelling things at the screen, that's the only reason I enjoyed that.
El_Dictador_Cubano
El_Dictador_Cubano on Dec 13 '07 at 12:58pm
was there more significance to Charita's character? She seemed like there should be something important for her, but she was just there? What effect did she really have on the film?
El_Dictador_Cubano
El_Dictador_Cubano on Dec 13 '07 at 12:58pm
and the "she was just there" should have ended with a period. It was a statement, not a question.
Simpletinrobot
Simpletinrobot on Dec 13 '07 at 1:06pm
I always saw her as important as someone Donnie's life effects unbeknownst to him (until he finds her notebook), I've always felt one of the major films is how much Donnie's life matters to those around him, and I think she represents the people he effects passively.
Simpletinrobot
Simpletinrobot on Dec 13 '07 at 1:07pm
And I think she was important for Drew Barrymore's character as someone who she felt could understand what she was going through ,trying to do something good (her dance, Barrymore's book selections) and being misunderstood and heckled for it.
