So today I went to my doctor and she has diagnosed with me with Social Anxiety Disorder, some weird named phobia and Depression.

Now I will be very much drugged and sleepy.

I don't get how people are supposed to get better by taking medicine that just makes them sleepy and sick.

Because it takes time before it kicks in.

I don't know why but medicine creeps me out. I don't know what I'd do if I had to be on something. I'll usually wait out my headaches most of the time.

Well .... it's not the amount really. It's the side affects on the priscription bottle that scares me. I mean it actually says, Call your doctor if thoughts of suicide occurs.

WTF?
I have never thought about suicide.. now if this medicine is actually going to make me think about it. Should I really be taking it then?

You know what I am saying...

yeah those antidepressant meds are notorious for making people think of suicide. it's so retarded.

if it has that effect on you, talk to your doc right away.

hopefully it won't though.

The meds are all about trying to get the right chemical balance going on. It can take a little time to get used to them. I'm sorry you're feeling crappy right now, but stick with it for a little while. Medication can seriously change lives. This might not be the right one for you, so if you continue to feel the side effects, I would go back to your doctor and see if you can try something else.

I would also consider going to see a talk therapist also. The combination of medication and talk therapy can often do wonders. Good luck

Yes, what mreisel said. Meds in conjunction with therapy is a solid way to go.

I tried talking to a therapist like couple of times.. but all I did was cry and had a huge headache at the end of the session.
I might try it again since people tell me it does work.

She prescribed Paxil

Did your doctor talk to you about options other than medication? Like for depression, often a healthier diet, exercise, and being outside more often can help significantly. I'm not saying you shouldn't take the medication, I'm just wondering if other options have been explored.

I think therapy gets easier and less stressful over time... You have to get used to the experience of talking about things that you normally keep to yourself, and you have to get to know the therapist.

(I'm not speaking from experience, so it might be better to talk to someone who has been through it. I'm speaking from the perspective of a psych student who has a lot of profs who are therapists and draw from their clinical experience when teaching classes.)

keep track of how the meds physically make you feel

a doc put me on antidepressants for 3 yrs changing them up all the time, come to find out my attacks weren't anxiety they were allergy

and some of those meds made me feel like i didn't have control of my emotions

keep an open dialog w/ your doctor and continue to take good care of you

Paxil's not bad but your body does need to adjust to it. Same will go for when you start to ween yourself off of it some day.

Honestly, talking about what's going on in your head is probably the best way to overcome or learn to handle it. I HIGHLY suggest going back to a therapist. Like medications, it may take a few tries to get someone you're comfortable with, but in the end it is totally worth it.

Effexor is the worst. At least the withdrawal from that was for me. The most successful kind of med I got on was an SSRI called Lexapro. It made me sleepy, too, but it wasn't as strong so I still felt my anxiety. In the end, that's what helped me work through it.
