Yeah, you'd certainly have to blech it first (possibly more than once).
Your hair won't be as great as before, but it should be fine the first time. If you continually bleach your hair, that might be a problem however.
I've actually wanted to dye my hair pink too...lol.
Well you wouldn't want to get a guy all excited by your pink hair in the club, bring him home and then just when things are getting really exciting have him realise you're not a natural pinkhead. That's really upsetting for a guy.
I've had my hair pink/red for about five years, my actual hair color is dark brown. It was not really that good for my hair (twas dry), but I still have it! Your hair will recover. So - go for it.
Yeah, basically try not to bleach your hair too much or for too long, cause it really kills it. I had bright cherry red (atomic red) hair, and initially I bleached it to dye it, but ended up being able to just dye over the color as it faded, because my hair was just barely light enough naturally.
If you use stuff like Manic Panic or whatever, be careful. It fades SO FAST, especially in the first few washes... for the first couple days, try not to wear a white shirt, and avoid rain if you can.
I have to say that my hair has felt much better since I stopped dying it and have had my natural color for the past couple years, but sometimes it's worth messing around if you like the results.

Yeah, as much as I dig my blond, I'm thinking about dying my hair black and keeping it that way until my real hair grows out. My roots are getting pretty bad right now.
The pink will definitely fade, but as it fades, it'll leave you with faded pink + bleached blondish color, so... it might look kinda orangey and weird.
pink will not show up at all on your hair unless you bleach it to nearly white. and yeah, then you have regrowth and stuff. my hair was short, so when it was time to say goodbye to the pink i could just cut it out...
I agree with the idea of putting a streak in first. Here's what you do: part your hair the opposite way from how you normally part it and put the streak in there. Then, you have the choice to either hide it by wearing your hair normally or show it off when you are feeling pink.
I say do it. I wish I had dyed my hair when I was younger; it would look lame on me now.
I did all those one day dye things (and kool-aid of course) when I was younger. Also hair mascara was in then. I like pink. In streaks. Whole head does take a lot of work to keep I'd assume.
"i tried doing purple last summer and it looked like reddish in the sun."
Aww that's sad!
You should try with professional dye, which you can only buy in hair stylist-accessories shops. Well I know some shops in my area, but I bet it can't help you ;)
IMO, I think you're better off just doing streaks of pink and Special Effects' Atomic Pink lasts forever (at least it did for me). You can see some pics of how it comes out here. c:
