I am fucking sick and tired of people using bogus ads on craigslist to basically SPAM people...
It happens in other places too. Not just craigslist. Shit, some morons have even done it here on Threadless.

I've been searching for apartments for the last month and have been using craigslist a lot. I found a place that seemed really great and looked beautiful in the pictures so I contacted the guy. I was a BIT skeptical when I read it cause it seemed a bit lower in price compared to other places based on how nice it was.

In response I got this from him:

"Jeremy,

Thank you for your interest in my condo for rent. I am booking appointments to view the condo and would be interested in having you take a look at the property, if you can suggest a date and time that works well for you this would be helpful.

Due to my previous renting experience I am requiring that you verify you have an acceptable credit score and would like to know more about your employment situation to avoid dealing with unqualified renters.

I would recommend getting a FREE credit report from http://www.creditgradeunion.com which takes less than 5 minutes and has no cost to you. This is required before I will consider you as a serious applicant. This will also be useful for any other properties you are looking at and is a standard in pre-rent screening procedures.

I am asking that you complete the report and provide me with the numerical score, please DO NOT send the report as it contains sensitive information, you can print it for your records and bring it with you to the viewing.

I look forward to hearing from you."

I was so pissed that I felt the need to respond. I know he'll never read it, but here is what I wrote:

"Hello Alex. I suggest that you recomend to people that they visit http://www.annualcreditreport.com instead of the link that you provided. Annual Credit Report is the official site for your free annual credit report. Other sites such as the one you mentioned, and freecreditreport.com are technically free, but are loaded with spam and if you do not cancel the services that you sign up for via requesting the credit report via them, you end up paying for it.
So, I sincerely hope that you are not simply trying to spam on craigslist. If so, that is truely disappointing. This looked like it was a bit too good to be true, and now I'm pretty sure that it is absolutely too good to be true. If I am wrong, let me know and I will be more than happy to get you the information you are looking for.

Good Day,

Jeremy Piatt"

It's so frustrating looking for a new place to live, and then to deal with asshole spamers makes you CRAZY!

I suggest you all start emailing back SPAMers and making them feel bad about what they are doing.

this happened to my friends who were trying to rent their house out.
They had all these people show up looking to rent it b/c someone used their ad & rewrote it for MUCH lower than what they had it priced at. Then, I assume, they stole those peoples info!!
SPAMERS = douche bags! It's sux, b/c it's so easy to fall for stuff if you dont have a lot of experience with stuff like that :(

Apparently I'm really good at using the word stuff in a sentence! :P
