i don't like half the shirts threadless has seemingly printed over the years, hence my ownership of about 10 or so. Yet I don't parade around this community like my shit doesn't stink, calling designs "rip-offs" if they resemble something from pop culture. Am I right in saying that you wouldn't be saying a word if your Mario-esque design had been printed instead?

Boy, I really don't want to get too involved in this. But I can't help it.....

1. Magritte's painting is hardly vague and the saying that comes along with it has been used many times by people previously. It's ingenious that way.

2. The cafe press shirt came out on the 23rd; this design was submitted over a month ago.

3. Yeah, it's a nintendo reference. Don't buy it, if you don't like it.

4. Are you so ethnocentric that anything not in English is bad? There really is a whole other world out there.

Ryan, im not bitter about most of my designs.. some i feel should have got a higher score based on comments but whatever. I'm a fan of a lot of peoples stuff on here which makes me kinda pissed that stuff, IMO, is just OK or cliche, or totally fucking lame. but i keep having to tell myself that people in general are fucking lame and vote on lame shit.

my scoring or opinions of other art has nothing to do with how my subs score. hell, i do them at work while trying to not get caught. constantly clicking away back to my job shit, listening for footsteps over my shoulder. thats no way to work! anyway i just like to play.

no beef towards the artist, i remember reading that she actually drew it and didnt copy/paste. i commend the idea but after all is said and done. seeing someone walking down the street with it on.. its just another hot topic nintendo shirt.

and if you didnt study art, its just another french nintendo shirt.

Listen, I never claimed that appropriation was a bad thing! You're the one imposing the negative connotation there. All my point is, is that if appropriation has merit, then it has merit for everyone.
