Boxing Day U.S.A?

So this year was the first time I've heard of Black Friday. It's not really 'celebrated' in Canada, I guess.
Is boxing day a big deal in the states??

It's crazy that at larger companies you will get paid for time and a half on boxing day but not christmas eve...

since we never thought of ourselves (well after we decided we didn't want to pay the king's taxes) subjects

so a holiday orig from the upper crust giving there leftovers to the servants / lower classes doesn't really fly here.
