How long do you think you'll be paying it off for?

I finished 2 degrees and 6 years of school with about $29,000 in debt. If I stick to the minimum payment schedule (about $330 a month), it'll be paid off in 9.5 years. I don't want to pay minimum payments for the whole time, but likely will for the first little while so I can build up a bit of a rainy day fund. My first payment is due at the end of next month!

Sigh adulthood.

I finished 2 degrees and 6 years of school

I just want to say that's fairly awesome.

Actually, it's REALLY awesome.

My only suggestion is to make the regular payments, and if you have extra $ available to put on the loan, make sure you note it as payment to principal. That'll start to hack away at the bottom line. :)

Two degrees, huh? Smartypants.

I had no student debt, but my mortgage, property taxes and car loan keep my wallet slim.

Pretty much the same for me. I'll be paying off my loans for the next 10 years or so. Not looking forward to it.

Seriously, make extra payments towards the principal, if it won't put you in any hardship. Interest costs can be a real bitch.

$29.000 sounds like a lot to you now, and 10 years like a long time but really that's going to change fast. You'll earn more soon. You'll have it paid of before you know it. And well done for the 2 degrees.

Off the top of my head, I think im about $40k in the hole...

Deferment/Forbearance 4 lyfe. Ive talked to quite a few people who are in similar situations and they've been putting off paying for years... there are so many hidden loopholes, you just have to know how to find them.

I was also informed that a great deal of gov. funded loans are terminated after so many years.

I have managed to not take out any loans yet. But I will for sure when I start medical school. That craps expensive.

no loans yet, my school is fairly cheap. working off scholarships and my paycheque and education savings I think I can finish my degree without loans...but then there's a one-year program at another university for teacher certification that is going to cost as much as the previous four years combined :(
i don't know what i'll do then.

I finally paid mine off last year in one single go

I haggled the price down over the phone and they were like "sure why not"
