Alright, let's see what kind of interest this drums up:

I think it'd be super cool to do a vintage/second-hand/thrift-store t-shirt exchange. For an idea about what kind of sweet tees I'd like to see being exchanged, check out this stuff.

In most cases, a cool shirt like that takes a little bit of perseverance to find (at a garage sale, goodwill, or boxes of your parent's old clothes) but should cost less than 7 bucks or so.

How this would work: each person would email me their desired size, as well as measurements of their favourite tee, along with their address. I'd shuffle yah all around. You'd send off to somebody an awesome shirt that would fit them (as best as you can find) and somebody else would send one to you!

So....IF YOU'RE INTERESTED, just email me at vintageshirtexchange@hotmail.com
//////entrance is now CLOSED!

After giving out your assignment I think we'd allow a month or so for shipping.....just to give people enough time to find a cool cheap shirt that should fit the person you've got.

Couple of stipulations:
-in almost all cases, these shirts will be WORN...that's the nature of second-hand stuff. Don't be offended at a few small spots, normal wear and tear, etc. At the same time, try to ship one off that's in decent vintage condition.
-this is totally random, you will have no idea what kind of shirt or design you will receive. Let's all stick with tee shirts, or maybe in a few cases polo shirts or tank tops, but beyond that....it's a surprise!!
-be willing to ship internationally. It's not hard, cheap enough for 1 tee, and it just makes this way easier for me to assign shipping details to people.
-don't sign up if you're unwilling to put in a bit of thrifting time to find something for your person. Thrifting is fun, anyways, so embrace it!

Oh, and as far as I'm concerned:

-the more random the tee is, the better.
-having a date printed on the tee is a bonus if the year is before 1995, but a negative if the year is after 1995. I mean, there's little else as lame as a t-shirt that says "2001" or "Millenium" on it....but a shirt that says "Lawn Bowling Tournament 1983" is just bitching.

sounds cool. about what date would people ship?
juliejeremiah
juliejeremiah on Aug 10 '07 at 1:58am
It would be about a month after I assign people....so that would probably be mid to late September as a ship deadline. If that sounds OK to people.

Yes! That is perfect. It lets me learn my shipping address for college.

that sounds good. i just wanted to see which mailing address i'd have to use. i won't find out my new one for a couple weeks.
juliejeremiah
juliejeremiah on Aug 10 '07 at 2:02am
Well....late September is more likely. Cause I'll give a week for people to sign up starting now, then another week to get all of their info in, and then it'll be about a month after that for people to ship.
juliejeremiah
juliejeremiah on Aug 10 '07 at 2:03am
I'll send out a confirmation email in a week when I'm ready to collect addresses etc.

Sorry if this if confusing! I never organize shit.

Vintage tees are everywhere these days.
Down here in Oz there's an urban clothing chain called General Pants that stocks hundreds of 1 off vintage tees (mostly of us football and sporting teams and youth organisations etc.)
I'm not sure where they get them from but I'm assuming there's a u.s. company specialising in vintage tees that they'd deal with. Either way they're rather pricey at $30-$40 AU

juliejeremiah on Aug 10 '07 at 11:54am
Haha thanks Nora....I'm kind of hoping the exchange isn't so huge as secret santa....just a lil' more exclusive, if you will.

We've got about a half dozen people so far. I think I'll be gone most of the weekend so if someone wants to bump this sometime later that'd be stellar.

Oh Amalia I totally didn't want to rain on your shirt-fairy parade! I'm sure there are still tons of people who would love to receive a weird shirt from you. I've just had this idea rattling around in my head for awhile and wanted to get it done before summer.
amaliaslash
amaliaslash on Aug 10 '07 at 12:00pm
haha, i'm only sad because it's a better idea. since everyone would be receiving, not just one person giving.

k now we are skipping the confirmation step....so just hit me directly with your shipping and sizing info. Those of you who emailed me that "I'm in!", I have emailed you back asking for this info.

WOW I am awesome at this organizing stuff! Hahaha hopefully all is smooth from here on it.

And with that I am off for the weekend. :)

The not so awesome part is the local thrift stores rarely have anything good.

But, what the hey, I'll be emailing you my info shortly!

The Vintage Vantage site sure is interesting.....though I can't help but get sticker shock looking at some of those rarer tees.

$234 (whoa)
.
.
.
$790 (would you ever wear it?!?)
.
.
.
$2300 (you better be a really serious Jordan fan)
.
.
.
$5200 (wow, history doesn't come cheap)
.
.
.
$13000 (what?!?!)

Thirteen thousand dollars?!?

Does that include hand-delivery?

Wow.
juliejeremiah
juliejeremiah on Aug 13 '07 at 6:13pm
Yeah, I'm pretty sure they don't even really want to sell that tee, they're just showing it off.

Just got mine!

Question though.

Is this like me and my person are exchanging, or is it more of like I am sending a shirt to person A who is sending one to C who is sending one to D who is sending one to me?
juliejeremiah
juliejeremiah on Aug 18 '07 at 12:18am
The second thing!

Haha, you are not sending and receiving from the same person!
