These are my two favorite songs to appear in a mario game:

If you get a chance to play bastion, one of the best things is it's soundtrack.

8-bit vIdeo Game theme music is so great. I am a link fool but Karnov had some epic music.

I could not stop playing Duck Tales. I had Tandy tape recorder that I used to record the music and sleep to it with headphones on

Anna already got Mega Man II and Kirby's Dreamland (is it really underrated? It's soooo gooood!) So I give you:

Captain Skyhawk has THE BEST game over music (at 3:58). It's pretty much like "oh you died? s'cool."

I could play this forever, but Link to the Past might be my personal favorite.

The music was so good in that game! But I didn't give myself any time to check out the soundtrack. Also, Valve has the whole Portal 2 soundtrack to download on their site I think.

But this is still their best song.

I went to the Video Game Live concert last year when they were in Chicago, I'd really recommend seeing it if they come to your town.

one thing I learned quickly as a kid is that underwater levels in video games usually sucked, but they always had great music..

if you want some badass game music shinobi is your man:

you can't have a game music blog without some boss music:

Dammit I don't think I ever beat the underwater level in TMNT. Seriously pissed me off as a kid.
I put up the Portal 1 song, Leon.

Also the soundtrack to the Scott Pilgrim game.

I'm happy when I remember Anamanaguchi made a soundtrack for a game and it's awesome.

one of the first game soundtracks i ever noticed was an 8bit version of Eric Clapton's Layla which i think appeared at the start of Outrun or something in the 80s.

This is one of my favorite video game songs of all time, it's my ringtone. So classique.

The snow levels in Donkey Kong Country were so intense. It makes sense too, beacuse freaking snow barrel blast was the hardest level. This music is so scarry.

Also, anna posted this earlier but around 4:50 is the theme song tot he island levels of Kirby's Dreamland. One of the most memorable, and catchiest songs I heard playing the gameboy growing up. So sick.

The beginning of Alex Kidd in shinobi world is brilliant. Come to think about it, the whole game music is brilliant.
