leende
leende on Nov 21 '06 at 11:34pm
Hmm. Those don't rhyme.

Maybe it's just your American accent.

But then, even with an American accent, surely "hinge" has an "h" sound, and "door" has a long vowel sound while "orange" has a short vowel sound?

Then again, "cherry" and "fairy" don't actually rhyme to the rest of the English speaking world.

Seriously leende, stfu. But if you come from NY and pronounce orange more like 'aarange' then 'carnage' kind rhymes with it too.

btw- two words don't count.

guys, when this was first printed, there were about 20 of these blogs, arguing whether door hinge was a rhyme, differenet kinda of rhymes (Slant and perfect), banana and montana, ferry rhyming with cherry, but not fairy, but it depended on your accent.

IT DOESNT FUCKING MATTER!

and if it does matter enough to you, then dont buy it. and if you still think its an awesome shirt, then DO buy it. problem solved.

If that were the case we'd stop teaching English in primary school. Just because people are unfortunate enough to decypher your drivel in every day life doesn't mean you talk properly.

Suddenly i'm questioning the way i pronounce everything.

I never would have thought. door hinge. orange.

I guess if you say door hinge like it's one word it works.

dooringe. orange. yep.

if door hinge was one word and orange was OR-HINGE, then it would rhyme. if porridge was PORR-INDGE, then it would rhyme. but its not, so it doesnt! nothing rhymes with orange. no matter how you pronounce it.

Definition of a rhyme:

1. identity in sound of some part, esp. the end, of words or lines of verse.

2. a word agreeing with another in terminal sound: Find is a rhyme for mind and womankind.

So yeah, according to this definition they rhyme. Door Hinge and Orange, Cherry and Fairy, Banana and Montana.

BUT, Door Hinge is two words, so it doesn't count.

Plus, I love this shirt.

I say it 'OAR-inj', so door-hinge, syringe, and binge all work for me. But I can also rhyme wash and marsh, so I don't think that counts.
MathaisGruntsworth
MathaisGruntsworth on Dec 16 '06 at 1:23pm
ya but if you hyphenate it door-hinge, then its one word.
