Farenheit 451 = Temperature that books burn

Farenheit 451 != Temperate that ugly girls burn.

his point seems to be, why is the girl's face on fire instead of the book

his point is clearly that he thinks that the girl's face looks as though it is on fire.

well then it's a good thing you have your vector-traced enclothed shirt, aristarchus.

yes, the book is on fire, yes, her face is on fire. this isn't supposed to be a literal interpretation of the book.

Because if he did then he'd not be heeding the warning inherent books like Farenheit 451.

Surely one of the key points of the novel was that, when the books were burnt, humanity was destroyed as well.

As my profile says, I'm not a shirt-Nazi. I'm not one of these folks who feels that one technique or another somehow makes one shirt superior or inferior to another. I'm all about what I like. I like that graphic better than this (yours) as far as a design goes which is either inspired/influenced/or otherwise evocative of Bradbury's book.

And I think 'Lamb (troll or not) has a point if you want to argue that your design is not "a literal interpretation of the book." Why then the title?

Just musing.

And maybe stirring shit. It's a hobby, after all.
sonmi
   sonmi on Jun 05 '06 at 3:41pm
personally, the title is as insignifcant as any other design i've done. it just ended up as that because during the design process there ended up being a book burning, so i guess that's why i'm a bit bothered by it being compared to other, more literal, 451 designs.

no worries.

Bruce Willis is Sontag!

F*ck, that would be bad casting!

Chris Eccelston as Sontag... Now that would kick ass.

Sontag? You mean Montag?

Why the hell is the girl on fire?

Wasn't the lady who was burned in the book old or something?

Why does it look like clip art?

Why the hell did this get through?
Aristarchus

> Sontag? You mean Montag?

I sure do mean Montag. I always think "Sontag" because there used to be this old f*cker that lived down the street when I was a kid named Sontag... It's bad enough in blogs where nothing matters, but it's a bite in the ass when you're trying to teach this book to a class and you keep saying "Sontag". Nothing like thirty fifteen-year-olds chanting "MON-tag!" every five minutes.

As for the rest of your questions...

...it wasn't really good.

That book was fucking terrible. It was written by an egotistic douchebag who overestimated the power of books. (Ray Bradbury) Why would people suddenly become less lively after not reading book? IT IS STUPID. IT DOESN'T MAKE SENSE...even before books were made, people had personality.

Hah you don't get the point of the book.It wasn't that books are what gives people personality, it was that the government wanted everyone to be the same and have everyone dependent on television as a source of entertainment as opposed to books. The point of burning the books was to make sure the people who still did think independently, would think that they were the only ones and could not develop any complex ideas because they would only be dependant on themselves and therefore the mentalities would not be able to spread.
