I just received my shirt in the mail, and I noticed the yellow ink seen on Count Chocula's face and Sonny's beak are a bit dark compared to the picture. Anyone else have this problem? I've attached a few photos.. maybe it's not that big a deal.

to me... it looks just like the original image.

Hmm.. I guess it must just be me.. I really think the yellow ink is much darker on the shirt.

It does look darker to me

It can't be the picture that makes it look dark, because (i'm assuming) all the other colors are lighter due to the flash, so in theory, the yellows should be lighter as well.

Also is there a pattern like there should be on the smacks frog?

it looks the same to me

Yeah.. there's a pattern in the Smacks frog.

Everything is lighter with the flash.. so you can imagine that the yellow is even darker in real life.

Another fact why you shouldn't base colors on your pc monitor.

yes, the actual print came out darker. They're all like that

One is ink, the other is light - comparing apples to oranges. Printing on a blue shirt, even with white back-up, not going to be the same.

like canadian said, its not an ink problem, youre just comparing what something looks like on your monitor (made of light) to something printed (made of ink).

Actually, you would be better of comparing the colors to the cake :-)

Hey, I'm just pointing out a fact. It doesn't mean I love the design less. While it's true I'm comparing what I see on the monitor to what I see on the shirt, it doesn't change the fact that they're different. Also, I'm pretty certain it's possible to make the color of shirt come out more similar to the color seen on the screen. After all, I'm still looking out of the same set of eyes.

Look. One is ink (CMYK) the other is light RGB. It is a $17 shirt, not a $2500 house paint job. If you are unhappy with the shirt, you can send it back and get another one, or just enjoy it.

Well I doubt they color match all their inks to digital using a Spectroscope. Most print shops have a uniform palette of spot colors on hand and mix something custom using those colors if necessary.

Printing in process on paper is hard enough to match colors, to say nothing of screen printing on fabric.

Also, your eyes perceive color differently under differnt situations. Computer screens directlty project light to your eyes whereas a printed shirt reflects ambient light. On a monitor colors will change more visually depending on the colors immediately surrounding it than they would on a shirt.

It doesn't look bad. They just used something like athletic gold ink rather than a pale yellow. Since it was printing on a white base I would have made the same call myself if I were printing them. Just looks nicer.

Hey Canadian.. I enjoy this shirt just fine. I admit I really don't know much about how light color and ink color differ in their unique properties. And everything you're telling me makes complete sense. Considering this is a forum about Threadless, I thought it might be useful to bring up the discrepancy. No, it's not a big deal, and I'm not comparing it to a $2500 house paint job. If it were a house paint job, I'd be in a forum that specializes in house paint jobs.

I apologize for being so uninformed on the topic, and thank you for clearing up my confusion.

Yeah, I've noticed that sometimes the colours are a bit different... sometimes it has a negative impact on the design (I'd say it didn't go too well for A Voyage of Discovery, and by many accounts Only In Dreams changed in colour quite a bit too) and sometimes it doesn't. But if you're happy with the shirt either way, then I guess it's not much to worry about. :)

No worries - I will be seeing the shirt in my mailbox in a day or two and I will see for myself. I have lots of Threadless shirts already so I know what to expect.

I'm looking at your posts here guys and just wanted to re-affirm that screens always look different than ink.

For those who can't really imagine how there can be a difference, just go to any TV shop...you'll notice how different the colour can look JUST from one screen to the next. Now imagine having to print a colour to match all those screens...

For sake of convo, those colours overall look pretty acidic to me (so they look good onthat blue background) so that yellow does look a bit more on the green side than bright tweetybird yellow.
