Ok we are 2 episodes in. What do you think? So far I am not impressed with any 1 artist and it feel like "Craft Fair Death Match" more than an Art show.

anyone?

Who hates Sucklord already?

Who is glad to see guts girl go home.

What was with that emotional breakdown?

shirtflirt on Oct 20 '11 at 1:32pm
yes. i was saying to wifey last night that if this show was serious they'd find artists, not people who enjoy making things that may be interesting in front of a camera.

i think sara, michelle, young sun and leon are decent but not amazing.

the others are just sitting ducks.

and that chick busting up at someone telling her to push herself harder? really??? that was weird.

sucklord....

why would you put a figure maker in an art contest? he already found his niche, he's a professional, i guess....i hate that

What I don't get is Tewz is a graffiti and street artist, yet he doesn't seem to use that style in his work. I could completely see a large scale graffiti piece working in a "Motion" theme. A lot of graffiti already has great use of motion and line.

He might be getting over run by the personalities of the other "artists" and trying to do things he is not good at to fit in.

I honestly thing Sucklord should have gone 1st round but is being kept around as a producer's pick to stir stuff up. The french guy at least made art (something visually appealing) even if it wasn't all that original in style.

This season looks like a train wreck but I'll end up watching anyway. I think the first true Group Challenge where they are forced to actually work together on something will be sure chaos and someone will cry.
shirtflirt
shirtflirt on Oct 20 '11 at 2:48pm
yeah, i'll stick around. i don't have any hopes to see anything truly amazing...maybe leon can pull something together.
bortwein
   bortwein on Oct 20 '11 at 3:34pm
yeah Leon is interesting and I think Michelle is a little crazy but talented. Her thing about poop this week was disturbing.

shirtflirt on Oct 20 '11 at 3:38pm
right? couldn't figure out what was worse, her suggestion or the fact that the team USED IT?!?!?!
bortwein
   bortwein on Oct 20 '11 at 9:56pm
yeah excuse the pun but some should have been all "you have to be sh**ting me... right?" At least Sucklord seem to have a clue and want to get the group back onto "motion".

Maybe we should start some weekly challenges that use their "Theme" of the week and make submissions due each Wednesday when the show is on.

Like this week would be "Motion" and subs would be due by next Wednesday, Threadless Time: 8:00PM (CST).

What do you think?

"Pop"
Not a bad episode. Saw a lot of boobs which was a little awkward but over all an ok show. I really thought Dusty would go home.

shirtflirt on Oct 27 '11 at 4:01pm
yeah...boobs are ok now as long as they're an A or B?

very upset with this season. Not impressed by any of the artists up to this point.
bortwein
   bortwein on Oct 27 '11 at 4:06pm
Some of them seemed so out of touch when it came to the idea of "Pop". There is such a variety of subjects and medias that could have been used/addressed.

I wasn't impressed with the winning piece. It seemed like bad typography on a large scale.

shirtflirt on Oct 27 '11 at 4:10pm
yeah...for the POP experience, sucklard won, in my mind anyway. his display was hilarious, poignant, and fun.

   bortwein on Oct 27 '11 at 4:21pm
I was surprised he wasn't in the top group for crit, but then again he did just do his same action figure thing he is already doing outside the contest.

I just started seeing this show this season and I have to say that these are some oddballed people and not necessarily in a good way. I think that so far I'm rooting for either Dusty or Lola. Dusty cause I liked his self-portrait, and Lola cause I think once she stops bsing around can be creative but I could be wrong about her. Not really fond of the Young Sun dude, for all he says he is about curator this and that he hasn't really shown anything all that impressive...is season 1 better than this, might look into it more?

I hadn't seen episode 3, but just took a glance at the artwork and I am no longer rooting for anyone they all disappoint me....might still watch it though to see if they at least improve.

Season 1 is better than this season so far. I felt like they made more "art" and less "craft project" stuff in the first season.

not bad last night. I can see why they sent Tewz home. I also think The Sucklord is a little lucky and I'll be curious to see how he handles the next challenge. He is not on my "OMG, Just send him home." List anymore.

There seemed to be more pieces this week that appeared more like Art and not just craft show junk, so I was happy to see that.

Tews was clueless. Sucklords piece didnt do anything for me. But I still think dudes got potential. Also really loved the piece that won

I don't get why so many of them come on the show and do the "I've never tried this sort of art before..." thing and then they get cut. The blood and guts girl (Kathryn) had that happen to her this season. She had no idea on how to make video work for her. On the other hand I don't think she knew how to break out of her blood and guts art box.

Tewz even said he had never made a concrete sculpture before and the concept ended up getting him cut. I don't know why he never went back to his roots of graffiti art for this one. Just do the art that got you onto the show.

Also, completely agree with you about the "never done this before" comment. Clearly, they were all hand-picked for a reason. Makes absolutely no sense why they deviate so far away from their craft. Risks are fine when done confidently and smartly. These are just insecure mistakes imo.
bortwein
   bortwein on Nov 03 '11 at 3:24pm
it happened 1st season too. I guess you get surrounded by all these other artists that are doing so many different things it make you want to try it.
bortwein
   bortwein on Nov 04 '11 at 9:33am
The newspaper challenge seems like it could be good. I'm really curious about this "Can I change my headline?" comment by Sucklord and why the one girl gets all on him about rules.
shirtflirt
shirtflirt on Nov 04 '11 at 12:22pm
it is feeling very craftsy this season. very little inner narrative in most of the pieces. and last night, when there was personal story involved it almost got crying elf girl eliminated.

and spacey alien girl didn't think geese with their eyes pecked out and bloody eye sockets was too intense for kids?

weird.

anyway, sucklord gets it to a degree. i agree with art snob old farty pants about the star wars figure EVERYTHING doesn't have to be pop referential...it waters down his niche...anyway i want cowboy mullet guy to win
he's chill
he understands art
and he nailed the kids challenge

Dusty was lucky to make it past the Pop challenge with his Trash bin creation piece. I also like him and think his portrait with the crayons is great. He needs to try and not over think this projects. Hell they all need to do that.

I bet it would have had more viewers from here if Alex had applied and gotten on the show.
bortwein
   bortwein on Nov 10 '11 at 11:53am
wow, can the art on the show get any worse?

The winning piece was kind of lame and I swear I have seen that sort of thing done before. I think that guy just touches on topics that the judges want to promote so they jump on board and give him the win. I didn't think that Young Sun's pop winning piece was very good either but they love the subject matter so they gave him the win then too.

-end rant-

Bayeté just seemed to fall apart at the seems with his piece.

I'm guessing Lola's piece looked better up close, but her just tracing photos from the paper in that loose line work and then just labeling parts with words just didn't seem that great to me.

i'm holding to the fact that ther's just not enough time to get quality

eitehr that or these people are really really dumb
