I am going there in a little over a week, and I've never been there before. I'm staying with my cousin who lives near Times Square.

Any suggestions on what to do while I am there? I'm looking for free/cheap things to do, I know we* are going to visit Central Park, China Town, Times Square, see the tree, and I want to visit Bryant Park.

Any others?

*we = me, my 2 aunts and my cousin.

CAMERA QUESTION!
I have a point and shoot camera that isn't the greatest but not too terrible and I have a nikon d3000. I'm guessing I should just take the point and shoot, but I'm not 100% sure. What do ya'll think?

i was reading about the museums, how many of them operate under donation admission so you only have to pay a penny. That is pretty cool! I'd never do just a penny, but I can't afford to do more than one with the $20 museum admission prices.

Virgil's is pretty good.

also the Stage Deli

how many days / what days of the week are you there? taping of the Colbert Report is one of the best things to do if you're there Mon-Thurs, just show up in the standby line around 3 maybe? and then you give your name and get to go on your way and check back in later to see if they have spots.

for cheap/free and really good improv and sketch comedy, Upright Citizens Brigade theatre.

Serendipity3 for huge amazing desserts, there's always a wait around an hour or so, so put your name in and walk around a bit or grab dinner elsewhere.

We are going to be arriving early Saturday and staying all day Sunday and then heading back home late Monday.

It is just a quick trip up to mainly hang out with my cousin, so we won't get to do a whole lot of different things. :(

I have heard lots of awesome things about Serendipity!

Shake Shack! Oh man, me and my girlfriend were in NYC two years ago and we went to the Shack on our last day there. So good! And we were early so we were almost first in line. We also went to see UCB. Good times.

Don't be intimidated by the line at Shake Shack. It's worth it.

This Shake Shack place must be the place to be!

What about FAO Schwarz? Is it worth stopping in, or is it just a tourist trap? I'm a huge fan of kid like things....

If you have a chance, you should definitely check out the Met!

The Met is awesome. So is MoMA. And the Museum of Natural History. FAO Schwarz is just a toy store. Don't waste your time.
