Hello hello!

Waving a cross-country howdy to SF!

If fortunes are correct and the stars align - I will be moving out to beautiful San Francisco this Fall!

Any one have any neighborhood living advice?
Cool spots to eat/visit/see while I'm apartment hunting?
Is there a Threadless meet up in SF ever?

Shout at me!

Andy

Fecal face.com I know it has a lousy name but its probably the most in depth guide you'll find on the san fran art scene it lists all the gallery shows in the Bay area (which I think is the focal point of the artistic community).

I'm not from san fran but I badly want to visit.

it's expensive! on par with NYC.

I live here. Jackanapes does too.

lots of cool stuff:

Parks! (esp. Dolores Park, Golden Gate Park)

A nice grassy place to go on the weekends and drink beer.

Cal. Academy of Sciences

Awesome natural history museum. Every thursday is Nightlife, where it's just like the daytime museum only there's booze, no kids, and DJ music.

Some neighborhoods are very warm and sunny. Others are almost constantly foggy. The Mission, Bernal Heights, Noe Valley, and Castro districts are pretty sunny year round, while the closer you get to the ocean (Haight, Sunset, Outer Richmond) can get pretty bleak. like, this morning it looked like a blizzard of fog.

The upper Mission is a fun neighborhood, esp. Valencia St. Cool bars, neat shops.

Fun Cheap SF is full of cheap, fun things. in SF.

If you're vegetarian/vegan, Herbivore is a good place to eat. or even if you're not, it's a good place to eat.

If you like pizza, Little Star has great pizza.

there's a cool spot on my street where bums like to sleep. and/or urinate. if you have your own sleeping bag, it's a plus. there are already flattened boxes to sleep on!

The Mission is pretty artsy, young, and happening. you know, where there are a lot of young men and women who probably would roll their eyes if you called them hipsters, but come on.

marblecargirl on Jul 17 '09 at 12:05pm Stay out of East Oakland.

funny stuff but true, that's not where you want start your bay area experience. if you do look in the east bay try alameda, lake merrit area, el cerrrito, emeryville, north oakland, berkeley. then if you don't mind serious commuting there's always fremont, walnut creek, antioch, san leandro, or hayward

Alameda is effing awesome. That's where I live. I highly recommend hanging out on the island sometimes.

I hope to live there real bad.

Visited back in 05. Museum of Modern Art was grand, and if you like seafood---- Swan Oysters Depot is the shit.

And don't forget Bushman at Fisherman's Wharf! And tip him!

If you can't afford the city you should consider somewhere on the BART line. I personally love the East Bay cuz I grew up here. I live in Walnut Creek and commute to SF. Only takes 35 min on BART.

oh and stay out of Richmond. I lived there for many years and barely made it out alive.
