Ugh, Design Purgatory

So I started this design almost a year ago (original above...)

It never made the running after 3 updates, so I changed styles to the bottom one ..

But i don't know if I like it!

I'm begging you!
Any Pro's or Con's (design, techniques etc.) of Either would be Appreciated ..

Which one you like more,
What I could do to update that one..

Any other tips / Words of Inspiration

I'm just looking for any guidance. I know some constructive criticism of the Threadless community will help.

Good idea, poorly executed. I like your top better, it just needs.. to be prettier in different style. The top one.. the lips dont quite look liek lips.

I think the first version is MUCH better. I'm not sure why it was rejected - I've seen subs that I think are a lot worse in both concept and execution.

Instead of trying to go in a completely different style, just make some major changes to the top version. I agree with Tammy that the lip shape needs work; try taking a mirror and study the shape of your own lips. Also try getting rid of the thick black outline around the mouth and broccoli (so it's like your new version, but not scribbly). The little broccoli guys are cute, but you could experiment with different eyes, mouths, and facial expressions.

if a design doesn't work the first couple of times it may just be a bad idea. i'd scrap it and try something new.
