We have two practically new grills here at the threadless warehouse and we plan on getting the maximum use out of them this summer.

We cooked some brats, burgers, and dogs today for lunch today for the meat eaters, and the herbivores made some black bean and corn burgers as well as boca burgers. There was also grilled eggplant and grilled pineapple.

(pics coming soon)

What are some other good thing we can grill out for lunch in the future? Also what are some good side dishes to make? (please post any recipes if you can)

UPDATE: I'm going to post when we are grilling so people can come out and grill with us(feel free to bring a side dish or dessert)

Tuesday (5/10) @ 12:30pm

You can grill anything, all you need is some aluminum throw-away pans.

BBQ chicken wings have become a weekly meal the past month or so... Jack Daniels sauce + crushed red pepper.

Side dishes:
Corn (soak it in water for a couple hours then cook it while its still in the husk)
Baked beans
Potato salad

My wife and I like to buy potatoes and slice them into thick chips. Then get them sticky with cooking oil and cover them with this:

You can also do this with zucchini. Both of these take a watchful eye, because there is a thin line between crispy and delicious and burnt.

I also like to grill sliced pineapple and put it on a burger. The burger needs pepper jack cheese and A1 sauce, and any other condiments you like. The sweetness of the pineapple and the pepper jack and A1 sauce causes a magical moment in your mouth. The A1 sauce is optional, but the pepper jack cheese is a must.

grill an entire chicken srsly. i do it all the time. if the grill temp is about 700-800 degrees it won't take long. the skin will be super crispy and the meat really tender. rub it with butter and salt beforehand

I had grilled onions and green beans on Sunday.

Beer can chicken is nice.

Things on skewers are good. Like prawns with chorizo or chicken and peppers, onion, mushroom or whatever.

Corn on the cob with a tiny knob of butter, wrapped in foil makes a delicious addition and a Greek salad is a good, easy side.

Can I come for lunch, please?

I like to make pizza on the grill, nothing fancy I just use pre-made dough and whatever toppings I feel like at the time.

Mushrooms! Stuff them with blue cheese or goat cheese and wrap them in bacon before grilling them.

i wish it were possible to grill pancakes...

but i think the batter would fall through the grate.... and then we'd just be stuck with little pancake fries...

also i think i may have just invented the best new breakfast item for the Burger King menu...

Wrap up some sweet potatoes in aluminum foil and throw those on the grill until they're tender. Probably the easiest snack/dessert to make. Super sweet and super healthy.

Though you could easily use an oven or open fire as well.

Grilled zucchini that has been drizzled with balsamic vinaigrette is possibly the most delicious thing in the entire world.

Homemade Teriyaki sauce is a great alternative to the traditional Western style (tomato based) BBQ sauce. It works with chicken, beef, pork, salmon ect.

Here's a basic recipe.

you take fresh salmon steaks - good sized thick steaks

you soak them for about an hour in a fine vat of olive oil and some of your favorite pepper based seasonings

get the grill nice and hot and throw the steaks on, the olive oil will drip down and cause the flames to surge and sear the steaks - turn the temp down to a medium level and let those steaks sit for 15 minutes then go out and baste them with the olive oil vat before flipping them - you know when to flip when the steaks "release" easily from the grill - the olive oil will again make the grill flame up - leave them on for another 15 minutes or until they reach preferred level of crispyness on the edges ) serve with your favorite sides and voila! easy grilled salmon steaks

The only downside to renting is I can't have a grill.

Althought I have often thought about putting one out on my fire escape (ironic as it may be)

Marinated Brussel Sprouts or Cauliflower are great.

I think everyone covered meat and fish (expect maybe pork chops, ribs?)

If you can get fresh oysters, you can grill them on the half shell...amazing with a little garlic butter.

@Chengui - I feel your pain, I can't grill at my apartment either, that's one reason I'm going to make the most of the grills at threadless.

@craquehaus - I've had oysters rockefeller once at a fancy restaurant and they were incredible, unfortunately there's not really any markets that I know of to buy fresh oysters in Chicago :(

Obligatory Edamame Burger recipe I always seem to post:

1 Part steam soy beans
1 Part veggie fried rice (or regular brown/white rice)
1 Part sesame crackers
Salt, pepper and Five Spice to taste

Food process rice and beans and remove. Food process crackers to the consistency of of bread crumbs. Mix everything by hand. Form into patties and grill.

Its great to garnish these with Japanese stuff like pickled daikon or fish flakes.

Also, when I grill all red meat (usually bison) gets lot of this:

Poultry usually gets marinated in soy sauce, garlic, and rosemary.

Fish I go crazy with and never do the same thing twice.

Step 1:
Buy a smoker.

Step 2:
Buy large quantities of unbutchered(big ass half animals and shit) meat from costco

Step 3:
Dry rub that shit

Step 4:
Give yourself 6-16 hours depending on what you're smoking

Step 5:
Eat like you never ate before

I was in texas last year, man they know how to do it, almost every street corner has some dude with a smoker so big you need a trailer to lug it around.
