I work with an internal marketing group and have been assigned the task of researching some interesting and cost effective way to bind books. Does anyone have any suggestions or resources for this sort of thing? Thanks.

perfect binding is the cheapest method, it's like how magazines are bound..

saddle stitching is the second cheapest, its just 2-3 staples on the side.

The most expensive is how books are normally bound which would cost a lot more (i forget the official name of this method)

I would recommend perfect binding with a high quality glue

What we do now, i believe, is that most expensive style. The problem lies in our cover. It is a treated piece of sheet metal with a diecut of our logo. What we are hoping to do is come up with a new way to attach this metal cover and still let the book lie flat when it is open. I don't even want to begin to explain how the cover is attached now. In short, its an attractive book but is complicated to manipulate during presentations.

ah, hmm that makes it more complicated if its a die cut piece of sheet metal... definitely wouldnt be able to hold with perfect binding... I was thinking it was a little bit lower quality than that

Sorry I know more about low cost binding than I do high cost because I have hands on experience with the low cost, but the high cost is just out of our price league (although next quarter im taking book design so i may learn that in the future)

I'm thinking about doing a simple spiral binding on the inner pages and then running some sort of slide down the center of the spiral to attach it to the cover. I'm just afraid it will look trashy.
