so, i wanted to release layers from illustrator to photoshop. this was simple in ai-9 (only one option) but in ai-cs3 there's 2 options, release layers (sequence) and release layers (build).

my question is what's the difference and when is it a good time to use either?

your help would be mucho appreciato :)

Best bet is to hunt through google for an answer. I haven't had much play time between Illustrator and Photoshop sorry.

It's the way of the future that's fo sho. I love "InDesign Secrets" It's a shame there isn't a site like that for Illus.

Have you tried just creating two work pages in Photoshop and seeing what the difference is? Or is it not something you can actually see?

I haven't explored the CS3 halp extensivly. And I have illegal versions at home so I don't even know if they come with halp even. But I do remember CS2 being pretty on the ball when it came to dishing out advice about it's own systems.

Stupid sun! *shakes fist for Angelito.

cs3 is awesome but not knowing the full capabilities is a bit of a drag. hopefully i'll just wrk it out. i tried opening both 'release layers' in PS and they looked kinda the same? every single layer was imported and at the time i had a shit load of layers. my computer was really struggling. i just wanted the single layers, not the layers and the paths as well! i'm sure i'm missing something really simple.

if i know the british sun she'll be back real soon, haha.

Hurm. Well I do know that Illustrator creates new layers for paths automatically. That's in the layers option in Illustrator, so that could just be Photoshop recognising the Illustrator layers (I'm hoping I'm making some sort of sense here) and keeping them intact. You could try a merge visible in Photoshop per layer, that could get the paths to merge together perhaps?

It's hard to give advice without seeing what's actually happening!

Anyway. Bed time. I'll catch you around man, say hai to Angelito for me when you see her next (you're right about the British sun too).

from what i understand in 'HALP!' i should just be using 'build' and if i'm doing animation i use 'sequence'.

ah, i know what you mean, that makes total sense. i'll just do that then. cheers, tobasco!
