Well, it's that time of year again. That's right; exam time, looking forward to summer time, and most of all yearbook time. As school draws to a close, I'm sure we will all be reciecing our yearbooks soon, and will begin the time honoured tradition of signing yearbooks. But this year, I want you to make a difference and to write something truthfull. Encourage your friends to do this also, and sign the following to show your support and committment to abolishing the abmonination that graces the inside covers of so many yearbooks today.

you must be living in a cool climate, where I'm from all the schools end in may or verrry early june because they dont have ac and they have to finish before the summer heat hits

i was looking through my old yearbook the other day. there was a piece on doodles in textbooks that feeatured one of my best: a moustacheoed (spelling?) elizabeth an seton and an eyepatch wearing baby. my comment on the piece was "what can i say? i like pirates and i like babies."

hahaha,

HAKAS (that's fine, not so generic)- Many the idea for ending hags was inspired because 1. it's so boring and 2. in Buffy, the girl who goes invisible because everyone ignores her had her yearbook signed with only "HAGS"

Whylime- Yes, I do live in a cool climate, Northwest Coast. We're doing exams now though, we got out of school on the 13th

Do you really want the truth in your yearbook? Here's what 90% of the girls that got ahold of mine wrote:

Dear Richard,

You are such a nice guy. You're very smart, funny, and cute. It's been fun getting to know you this year, and I hope we see each other after school. Have a great summer. Stay sweet!

 - Jessica ♥♥

And here's what the truth would have been:

Richard,

Let me write this quick, because I can feel your taint on this book. It's been nice having you around to do all the work in group projects. I'll keep you on speed dial if I need help with my homework or tech support, but please don't call me. Ever.

 - Jessica

P.S.: Don't be suprised if I pretend not to know you in public.

Sometimes we kind of like deluding ourselves. ;)

I meant out of school as in graduation is usually the first Sat. in June, not the end of classes.

But I also realized that we are probably still going on the 'kids should be out in the fields detassling corn not inside book lernin' system instead of actual concern about the heat - but I'm excited that my theory was partially correct and you DO live in a cool place

Where do you go to school?

In correspondence with whylime's theory, it must be somewhere south; like New Mexico.

south carolina. it definitely sucks going back to school so early though. i hate sweating in my jeans because my shorts are too short for the dress code (they're not to my middle finger when i put my arms by my side).

I opened my 11 yr old sister's yearbook the other day and HAGS was written all over it. I had never heard of the term before. I didn't understand what it ment. The anacronym didn't come to mind, but rather the litteral definition of the word.

It was definetly confusing.

Threadless references in your yearbook, how lucky!

We get our yearbooks for this year tomorrow, so I'm busy thinking of things to write other than HAGS; any ideas?
zooiefrog
zooiefrog on Jun 21 '06 at 6:22pm
oh? I used HAKAS alot, and was going to leave alot of Threadless comments in a friends yearbook, but she forgot to come. I did leave alot of Browncoat references in another's though.

I got a TON of HAGS in middle school :(

This year, I only had 3 people sign my yearbook b/c I procrastinated, and they all wrote nice, semi-thoughtful things.

I actually had a conversation about HAGS with my friends the other week...we all agreed that it's practically an insult.

When I left school we signed each others jumpers rather than yearbooks, so there was no room for this meaningless bullshit. For the last month or so of school I also had a notebook handy for me and my friends to write any stupid crap in it that we felt like. It came out awesomely. My English teacher wrote me a poem and said a bunch of nice things in it too.

here people write on your blouse or anywhere really, we didnt get out yearbooks till after everything was over so there was no signing, only note leaving somewhere..

what i do remember from the states that annoyed me to death was the "have a ______ summer" jesus motherfucking christ!

i do have some sweet notes around from people not wishing for me to go..in high school over here people didnt really care about what crap i did so all of my friends were from outside of school..

zooiefrog on Jun 22 '06 at 4:31pm
loserbeech- That's pretty awesome, poems are cool!

Sounds like there's some cool alternatives to yearbook "HAGS", I mean it does work at the end of a long personal message to say something like "Enjoy your summer", just so that it seems like the note has some finality.
