about No Angel
It looks better than i expected but its still something i find unappealing. I gave it a zero during voting so i'm quite unhappy to see it here

Maybe they should institute a new scoring system, like Iron Chef or something where you score the design on three different categories: design, interpretation and excution or something, instead of just one flat score. but if Holly gave it a 0 because she didn't like it, so be it. Doesn't make her right or wrong or an idiot. Just a person with an opinion.

I agree, but I always tend to despise anything related to angels or faeries or anything that reminds me of the things the stoner metalheads at my high school would have drawn in art class.

it's kinda sorta gross, let's be honest here.

it's well drawn

but gross

This isn't as half as gross as Goatse. Come on gross isn't even the right word. If you happen to think of 'the right word' in this case Goatse would still be more worse.

when i came across this design i really did not like it, it just irked me for some reason. but i recognized that it was extremely well drawn so, to save it from a 0, i skipped scoring. the placement could have been better, but thats something that the staff should have realized. the whole image is a bit overdone...and kind of graphic...for me.

but i really do like the designers style, the well of tears and HOLY CRAP! have gotten $5 from me.

Dudes, I think it's lovely. Perhaps not best placed, but the execution is marvellous.

MARVELLOUS I SAY!

Of Huebucket's designs, this is not one I would have picked to print. Add me to the list of those who find the composition unsatistfying. Also, the stumps are odd. As anatomically fantastical as humans with wings would be in the first place, those just don't look like wing stumps to me. Some small consideration for the anatomy of a bird would have been nice (one only has to examine a chicken and how its wings are attached), and maybe a few remnant feathers. I would have gone gorier, myself, to look more like she did the job herself, but I guess that would turn more people off.

But all that being said, it certainly doesn't deserve a zero and heck, even if this isn't the Huebucket's strongest piece, Huebucket deserves the prize.

What was the prize anyway? They never got around to posting the details on the "Kill Hannah Loves" page.

its poorly balanced imo. that's the main reason I don't like it.

yea, i agree. It is a nice drawing though.

And I would have picked 5 or more other huebuckets to be printed before this.

this is a beautiful tshirt... I think you either love it or hate it. worth far more than a zero...if this is a zero then a lot of the stuff i have rated zero should be even lower.

You had to "save" it from the 0 you were going to give it b/c it irked you, despite knowing it was well-drawn? Has nobody else noticed that there are, in fact, numbers between 0 and 5 on the scoring scale and they DON'T only pertain to whether or not something is your style?

flourpower, i agree. people seem to miss 1-4 rather frequently...

WELL if everyone rated just based on how much work went into a shirt but hated the design then no one would buy the shirt, now would they? That's where honest rating comes in. Why bag on someone for rating honestly

Say it with me, kids: that's the reason for the existence of the little dollar sign checkbox. If a design scores an average of 3.5, but no one says clicks that box, Threadless won't print it. They're smart people! Trust them. They put those numbers there ON PURPOSE.

Gah. Sorry. I have just seen so many people say this and it makes me want to start administering slaps.

Why bag on someone for rating honestly?

Rating honestly isn't the issue. Rating carelessly is.

A shirt you wouldn't wear isn't a 0. It's a no $. There's still a rating scale to be taken into consideration. While I don't know that effort needs to be taken into account (someone can spend three days squeezing out a turd, but it's still aturd), the artistry should be. It's obvious that the skill involved here is far beyond a 0, and it's obvious that this person just 0's anything she wouldn't wear regardless of the execution.

^^ agreed, aristarchus.

How could you give this a 0? Have you compared this to some of the other designs in terms of quality? Huebucket's work is simply astounding.

quality is opionated...

I'm pretty sure that Kill Hannah had some say in this printing as well, so it's not entirely a Threadless decision. It's very well drawn, and in my book that gives it merit in itself.

The composition is pretty odd, but my main issue is that I really don't think it makes sense in the context of the theme of the competition. I also think that the subject matter is a little tired.

I also disagree that quality is "opionated," but that's a discussion for another day.

Congrats on the print in any case, and continue to sub, it's amazing to me that I have never seen any of your work in the forums here.

I can believe this is another blog about someone finding it difficult to believe that a design that they dont like got printed.

I find it hard to rationalize giving hue's work a 0. Especially when there are these designs:

A bad day - Threadless, Best T-shirts Ever

or

Once upon a time it was something great and big. - Threadless, Best T-shirts Ever

yeah... hue's design destroys both of these....

well i didn't mean that quality in itself is opinionated, i meant quality is based on opinion. Which it is.

You're what's wrong with Threadless voters. Just because you wouldn't wear or buy a shirt doesn't mean that it deserves a zero.

I think it's well drawn and all but honestly.... who wants this on their tshirt? (well obviously all the people who bought it)

it just seems so gruesome.

But that's why I buy happy t-shirts.

It isn't a tee I would purchase, but I think it is well done and deserved to be printed. Obviously someone liked it.

I like Kenneth tees, not food tees.

Print more kenneth tees

I gave it a zero because i thought the same thing many other people have pointed out - it may be relatively well drawn, but it reminds me of metalhead drongos at school, and quite frankly its very morbid and not my thing.

To be fair, i don't consider the competitions when i'm voting (which i havn't done for a long time now) so my votes are all entirely out of context - that way i'm not upgrading my vote simply because it fit the context of the competition.

I see us voters as the people who point out what designs are good or not, and then the threadless team are the ones who make the pick from the best for the various competitions

simple, isn't it?
