Giant squid DO exist. Sorry, this shirt is totally ruined, check out the news sometime. Giant squids have been caught on camera twice in the past couple years and they wash up all the time. The other "animals" really ARE doubted to exist.
Maybe it's meant to be a proper kraken rather than just a run-of-the-mill giant squid. Besides, I think giant squids still come under the jurisdiction of cryptozoology...

Not only is he frowning at not being part of the club, he's also been found out. Rather than the ship-destroying, Johnny Depp-swallowing monster of yore, he's actually a big softie. He just wafts in the current, munching the occasional fish. Poor fella has lost his fearsome rep too. Love the shirt by the way.
