awww, me last weekend, haha

I DO have a Spanish test tomorrow, but I'm just hoping I won't failz. Mondays chew ass because I have class from like 10:30 to 5.

It's really impossible to go to bed before like three on a weekend anyway, so I think I just need to come up with a better strategy since Sunday nights = tired.

i've never once gotten drunk. NOT DOING IT EVEN RIGHTER!

where most college guys party instead of doing homework and have furniture built out of kegs, i get straight A's and have an actual, nice dining room table and chairs.... *worst "college kid" ever*

WOOOOO! *high fives*

if you finish that time machine and go back in time, you'd be able to be lame and come to scrabble club with me. i wonder when our first meeting is this year? i'm no longer in charge of the website, and the new guy hasn't even attempted to update it yet.

Ahaha for me, being a badass in college isn't about getting shitfaced on a wednesday and missing classes for days on end to go on a party sabbatical; it's about getting shitfaced on a wednesday then going hom at 5 am to finish your calc pset. AND DOING IT WELL.

aw, i actually miss calc. freshman year was fun. i never did the homework, though, 'cause my profs didn't collect it. it made quizes interesting, 'cause i had to come up with how you're supposed to approach the problems on-the-spot, rather than learning that through the homework. i seriously hate it when teachers assign but dont' collect homework, 'cause i have a hard time making myself do work that's not required of me.

:) it makes me pretty darn happy that you actually got to come to a scrabble club meeting, anna. even if it was only for a half hour or so and you had to leave the moment margo/steph showed up. whhhhyyyyyyy did you stay in texas again?

Moneeeeeey. :'(
I did have such a bangin' time at Scrabble Club though! The game I played with you has to have been the best one I've ever played before. Gallivanting across campus with you and your fetus also made that trip quite memorable!!
Shit, I'm getting all nostalgic now. Road trip to Ohio!

What if that was true. Like you were just walking down the street and everyone was doing it as you passed them. The bank tellers, the fast food employees, the firemen, the lunch ladies. What a world man, what a world.

make my thesis less crap- plz.

its really basic, and like i dont have time to make it better (it IS 230 am for me)

In Homer’s Iliad, the portrayal of the character Briseis as a prize, and the treatment derivative of that help us to understand the experiences of women in Ancient Greece.

so i talk about how she's like, a prize and then like how she's referred to as a girl even though its proven that she was a non virginal princess when she was taken by agememnon and then how her lament for Patroklus makes her seem like an over emotionaldiluded chick
Jackanapes mk.II
Jackanapes mk.II on Sep 29 '08 at 1:32am
Hmmmmmm.

I don't know what to say, given that, on some levels, I disagree with that thesis.

But, also, I don't want you to freak out and feel like you have to start over again.
helladelightful
helladelightful on Sep 29 '08 at 1:36am
shit dont freak me out when i'm on adderall cause then i'll feel like i ahve to stay up until its perfect
Jackanapes mk.II
Jackanapes mk.II on Sep 29 '08 at 1:36am
I mean, some of that depends on what you think of Achilleus.

Most people I talk to absolutely loathe him from beginning to end. I don't. He's certainly not the most admirable person in the poem (although, frankly, neither is Hector), but he is the hero of the poem; and he starts out as admirable, he sinks into a sulking--if understandable--selfishness, kills a fuckload of people, almost dies, then realizes his mortality and has that powerful, powerful scene with Priam where he gives Hector's body back.
Jackanapes mk.II
Jackanapes mk.II on Sep 29 '08 at 1:39am
So, like, that point above was all supposed to refer to Achilleus' vis a vis Briseis. Does he "love" her, or is she just a prize? If he doesn't love her, does he have any feelings for her?

You might shift your thesis from being about women in general to being about what could happen to women on account of Greek attitudes towards them.

Because there are other women who have a much larger role to play in the poem itself: Helen, Andromache, Cassandra, etc.
helladelightful
helladelightful on Sep 29 '08 at 1:41am
o hyeah i know that -- i have a buynch of stuff about how he 'loves' her and thats why it sucked so much; I have how she went "all unwilling" which is her only adjective EVAR. and like also how her entire family was killed including her husband (did you know she was a princess??) and yet in the end she's still by his side

but i'm just using bresies because it was something i could zero in on
Jackanapes mk.II
Jackanapes mk.II on Sep 29 '08 at 1:47am
Yeah. Okay.

That's all cool.

Then talk about that: about how you're just using her as something you could zero in on.

Don't try to make your paper the be-all and end-all of the argument: one, it won't work; two, it only creates more trouble for you.

Freely admit that you're not trying to sum up anything drastically important to the poem itself; more accurately, you are using it to illustrate another point that is itself illustrated in the periphery of the poem.

Declare your intentions right off the bat. It will help to make the paper and your motives more transparent. Trust me, that's a good thing, because it automatically waves aside many criticisms or arguments one could bring up against a thesis like yours--that is, if you did not already say you recognize those criticisms, but are not concerned with them in your current paper.
