"We pick new high scoring designs each week from the archives."

taken from http://www.threadless.com/submit

so....explain to me how a 1.76 is a high scoring design...?
king slug
king slug on Jun 26 '06 at 10:13pm
i'm not bitching about the shirt, i just don't understand how a shirt with a 1.76 total score can get printed. it kinda defeats the purpose of the whole 7 day voting process.

I think these blogs are really mean spirited and I just wish that people could congratulate others for having their designs selected. Threadless likes Ray's stuff. If you're upset about that, complain to Threadless, don't buy it, whatever. Or better yet - turn that crazy raging energy so many of you seem to have into a shirt. I happen to know that Ray works really hard on everything he makes (yeah, that's right... I've got the inside track on Ray), and more importantly he actually cares about the things he works on. So I think this poo-pooing party sucks and it should just stop HERE.
stickymike
   stickymike on Jun 27 '06 at 5:30pm
I have decided this blog is funny, and the only problem milesj has with it is that he is butt hurt because he had a sub that scored a 2.12 and for some reason believes it should have been printed over "HI"

Which is STILL awesome btw, and Ray's design work is FAB

yeh I said fab, wanna fight?

I agree with Mike Mitchell

SHOCKER

and I really don't care how much talent it takes to make something

(this one looks like it took talent)

but talent isn't the point here.....hell, even I get lucky sometimes and take a good looking picture

I've just read through this blog and I've got to say I'm pretty shocked. The shirt is brilliant - proper graphic design and actually cool, what's the problem?

In fact the standard of chosen shirts seems to have gone up quite a bit recently, hopefully we've heard the last of "it's too big for a shirt" bullshit for a start. Maybe everyone's just confused that the usual strategies aren't working anymore...

Webreck said it. I'm glad Threadless decided to pick an awesome shirt that gets overlooked by people who just want a Glennz t-shirt.

I personally think the majority of the "design" looks like it was thrown in to fill space. The outline and dropshadow should have been left out of it so that the design really was what created the letters.

"I personally think the majority of the "design" looks like it was thrown in to fill space. "

You got it dude, it's called an ornamented face and dates back to early victorian poster typography. It was typically used to get attention on walls plastered with other competing messages. They used standard forms for the letters, but in different type shops the craftsmen would ornament these forms to make them different, essentially 'filling in' the space provided by the typeface.

People seem to think that a pretty basic design such as this one is easy. Those people are probably people who've never designed anything themselves. The most effort is in the things you don't see. You make many choices before coming up with this.

And I've said it before, but I think it's brilliant.
Ray.
   Ray. on Jul 02 '06 at 11:55am
Thanks, dude. I've never claimed to be brilliant but that's not going to stop me from defending my work, and getting defensive. Hahaha...

The shirts are selling fine and my artist/designer peers generally seem to like it, so whatever.
Bramish
   Bramish on Jul 02 '06 at 11:57am
The only thing stopping me from buying this (to counteract my generally unfriendly disposition and social ineptitude), is that I already have a bunch of dark grey shirts. I want it on pink dammit.

That said, if there are any left in a week or so, I'll probably buy it anyway.
