I just found out a little while ago that this youngish woman on my floor (young enough to have a 21-year-old daughter) died last night. I'd worked with her once, very briefly, but didn't really know her at all. She seemed really nice, though. Obviously a lot of people on the floor are pretty distraught over it--lots of hysterical crying, etc. Just a very somber tone overall.

My reaction when I heard was just kind of "Oh..." since I wasn't close to her. I always feel weird when things like that happen, as though there's an expectation for me to be really upset. Awkward, strange day...

Awkward indeed... I hate it when that happens. I'm not very emotional when people pass, so I've felt like that quite a few times.

What happened to her?

A co-worker of mine in a different office died in an accident a while ago. I know the feeling. I mean, you feel bad for what happened, but you didn't feel that close to her, so you're unsure how to comfort the people who were. I've never said, 'There, there' so many times in my life. It seemed to work.

Apparently she was diabetic and had been on dialysis for awhile (I had no idea), and she had routine lasik eye surgery yesterday, but later collapsed at her home afterward.

Today would not be a good day for an impromptu in-the-workplace musical.

Just try to be comforting to those who need it, I suppose.

one time a coworker felt the need to tell me his wife was getting an abortion because they didn't want a child with downs...yeah didn't know how to respond to that. And I was pretty mad he had told me. I know that's their own choice whatever, but I didn't need to be informed of it.

I don't know if he was looking for sympathy, or what...but that was still a

"........." moment

I know how you feel B, last month one of the women I work with died and I knew her, but not that well. I used to work with her husband he was the chief in my building, but never really talked to her much. It was like the most tragic thing that could have happened in my work though, and it was awkward until.. well it still is.

yuppp. things actually seem to be back to normal now, which, in a way, is even weirder :-p

haha. Yea it's strange how the grieving process works, but it's good to hear people are back to normal!

Bjork scares most people. Personally, I want her to have my children, and they can run around like crazy little bastards in Iceland. And I won't live with them, because Bjork is already married, but once I move to Iceland I can live down the street and visit them on weekends, and Bjork will call me on the telephone to remind me to bring their boots when I come down, but she won't just say it, she'll fucking sing it into the phone at me!

they should make a blogger's version of word where everything just translates. like 'lol' could become 'they laughed uproariously, as if they'd been friends for years.'

They should hand out oversized novelty vaginas at baseball games. You could use them to catch foul balls.
