in the artsy world, we have a dearth of self interested individuals, and it sucks

no rand is the writer who wrote many books about the egotist vs. the altuist, the individual vs. the masses. self absorbed? maybe. but not in the way you would expect.

To we_are_transient: This shirt is ironic. A person who buys a shirt that says "Selfless" isn't really selfless. The only way person that could wear it un-ironically is Ellsworth Toohey. And Ayn Rand has an interesting philosophy but it should be taken with a grain of salt. My favorite quote from the Fountainhead is "I could die for you. But I couldn't and wouldn't live for you." THAT I think is the important message to get out of her books. You don't have to be selfish to live for yourself and maintain an identity. Wait a couple years and read her books again for a new perspective. I remember immediately after reading the Fountainhead the first time, I was all about egotism but as an individual that cares for my family and friends and the world (but doesn't serve them) I've found I can't function at that extreme.

but if you bought this shirt and wore it, you'd be calling attention to yourself, which isn't really selfless at all. unless you bought it as a gift and gave it to someone who was selfless. but would they wear it? maybe i'm confusing selfless and modest.

to emonez- thank you.

it has only been a few months since i read it, but i already think i was a little bit caught up. slowly somethings started to clash with me. i liked what you said about taking some aspects from it, sort of creating your own philosophy. it will definitely be interesting to read it again years from now.

once again- thanks and all the best.
