I love it except it hurts to look at the duct tape that's eventually going to have to be PULLLED off.

But there's no hair there. Why would it hurt to pull off the tape? (I think it's electrical tape, that's what usually gets used for that kind of thing...)

why is this shirt racist? I'm a visible minority and I see no racism here. But hey, thanks for the "concern".

I don't think simply being a visible minority alone could qualify someone to brush off the accusation that this shirt is racist. You seem to imply that any minority will be offended by anything racist. ( Mexicans aren't offended by fried chicken jokes) If you had half a wit, you'd see that this could easily be seen as offensive by someone Hindu. But hey, thanks for your "insight."

HA AHAHAHAA! "mylampsisooff".... To win a fight with me hon you'll have to get up way earlier (or crack open a BOOK)! Being Hindu isn't a "race" its a RELIGION you quack! Let me also let you know that "Mexican" isn't a race either. Mexico is a country not a race you complete moron! It must be a shock for you to learn that. Get older and go back to school! What next? Canadians a race too i suppose? I guess if your "lampwasbrightatall" you'd know that racism is: a belief of superiority of a certain RACE (not a religion, not a country) hey but thanks for showing your complete ignorance of everything and letting us know how worthless you are. Don't adress me anymore you're too ridiculous to be read or heard.

So basically I still don't see why this shirt is "racist" I guess many other people don't see it either cuz its sold out! And my guess is that Threadless doesn't consider it racist either cuz it printed the shirt.... Is it perhaps "disrespectful"? I don't know, I just don't see it. I hope it gets reprinted tho cuz I want one!

It is of my contention that those who get offended by racist jokes are the true racists, not the ones who tell the the jokes in jest.

Yeah that wasn't directed at staffell, just something I believe in general to add to this, uh, melee.
kittenwithawhip18

Ok, Larlar but can one truly know the intentions of the "joke teller"? Plus how can the victim of a racist joke be the "true racist"? So if a whute person tells a "black joke" and a black person is offended the black person is the true racist? How so?

Because, kitten, if a black guy tells the same joke then it's reasonable to assume another black guy won't get all huffy at him. But if a white guy tells the same joke he's suddenly a racist. Given that scenario, yes, I would consider the black guy to be the true racist; he's the one alienating what people can say based on race.

I look at racist jokes the same way I would ones about age, sex or religion: they're no big deal, and just a joke. Some people don't, and I think it's because they have deep-rooted racial issues.

Of course, you're right, we never know the "true intentions" of a joke teller. He could be horribly racist. But someone of a race could hate their own race, vocalize it daily, and nobody would ever give a shit. It's a double-standard of which I'm incredibly sick.

Sorry Larlar, I guess I can't see anything funny about lynchings, and slavery then cuz I have "deep-rooted racial issues". I just can't imagine a black guy going to another saying: "Hey i heard the funniest KKK lynching joke this white guy told me. God its HILARIOUS!" or a Jewish guy saying to another "Did I ever tell you about the one where Hitler puts us in an oven?". The argument isn't even plausible. And how come the "joke teller" isn't the one with "deep rooted racial issues", he's the one who feels his life wouldn't be complete unless he insulted someone. I think you're trying to justify people being hurtful to each other and not feel resposible for it just like the white people who get upset that blacks can say "niggar" and they "can't" (like that's ever stopped any white person from saying niggar in the first place). Double standard? I don't think so.
Larlar
Larlar on Jul 14 '06 at 2:33pm
I'm Jewish and I have no problem with and/or tell similar jokes. And I have black friends who find black-centered racist jokes funny. It has to be plausible because it's true. Reality just debunked your rebuttal.

And it's not about being hurtful or insulting people, it's about poking fun at life. The fact that you distinguish racist jokes from every other type of discriminatory joke just demonstrates that you do have racial issues. If someone tells a joke about the elderly, that doesn't mean they hate old people. Why is race any different?

And the double standard clearly exists, whether you acknowledge it or not. The finest example being in like 99% of stand-up comedy.

I just love the "I have black friends" argument! It never gets old. LOL...I hope someone can make a t-shirt about that! 5$ and I'd buy it!

"your" reality is not mine at all. And to assume that the reality you know is the only one there is out there well...ignorant. And ignorance being the basis of most "race-issues" I guess you've just proven that you are the one with deep rooted racial issues that you take out by claiming there is "discrimination" and a double standard agaisnt you.

I'm not being anal about all jokes here. We've all heard comedians of all races make racial jokes. I find some funny too. I guess its the topics that are touchy. Sure I can laugh at a fried chicken or pork joke. Rapes, killings and tortures...ummm a little less. I think that makes me human and too respectuful to "poke fun at (their) life". I've not demonstrated any racial issues at all. (honey pls. I'm black my hubby's as German (read "white") as they come....so gimme the "deep-rooted race issues" a break.

But, since you're feeling so "oppressed" by the "double standard" of this cruel cruel world, perhaps you'll have to give those jokes a try on here and see how funny all "jews" and "niggars" here find them. It might make you feel better. I mean if its all in jest anyway why hold yourself back? I'm sure your "black friends" have told you a good lynching joke or two! Then I'll tell you a good one about jews and concentration camps. You'll love it!
Larlar
Larlar on Jul 14 '06 at 3:42pm
Uh, I never claimed mine was the only reality, nor is anything I've argued contingent on that premise. You, on the other hand, claimed that my argument wasn't plausible, indicating that yours is the only reality. Hypocritical and straw man much?

Not to mention the fact that you seem to argue based on ridiculous assumptions like the word nigger all by itself is some well-thought-out hilarious joke, which is just being absurd. Obviously I'm not talking about straight-up discrimination, but clever race-related jokes. It's not like I'm arguing that going up to someone who's black and yelling "why don't you steal a car, nigger?" is a hilarious joke.

But I see I'm obviously not going to change your mind, and if you're just going to be silly I think I'm done here. I don't need the last word, you can go ahead if you like. Tell me something else like "lol he says he has black friends who aren't bothered by racist jokes and even though it's true and collapses one of my points I'll just pretend it's wrong because I've heard it before."

Cheers.

Aaah Thanks for the little "reverse psychology" Dr. Goldstein. No, you don't have enough wits to "change my mind" especially with dumb arguments like "my black friends find these jokes funny" gimme a break....hiding behind your "black friends" to excuse your racist point is what makes your argument so sad...little bigots like you use it all the time heck, even openly racist people claim to have "black friends" so why should I consider you as anyone different? You share their exact point of view. But hey, if its a good argument enough for you then "my white friends" don't think its funny" and its also true. I mean really, everything you've typed has only convinced me and "my white friends" that you are the one with some racial issues you can't get over...trying to get sympathy for the the "poor white jew" who isn't allowed to tell a racist joke, he's just "so sick of the double standard" ....Yet, when given the chance to voice his "hilarious racial-centered jokes"...nothing. Aaaaw pity. Shall we all start a telethon for the poor guy's cause?

You're right, you're done.

ethnic jokes may be uncouth, but you laugh because they're based on truth.

don't take them as personal attacks, everyone enjoys them so relax!"
