Wish me luck... I'll be very busy this weekend (actually I have been busy during the week preparing for this) and I'll be out of town for a convention where I'll be giving 2 lectures... about wheelchairs and ergonomics (btw, I'm a physiotherapist).

Why did the chicken cross the street?... to show the armadillo that it can be done. You just got to love those shoes :-)

I made this design as a tribute to Rene Laloux, since his 1973 masterpiece film "La Planète sauvage" has greatly influenced my imagination since my childhood (I first watched the film when I was 8).



The design basically features a regular Traag (the alien beings in the film) in the trance state, surrounded by psychedelic plants. I made up this psychedelic sub-culture of the alien race (not featured in the story, think of it as a fanfiction), where certain concoctions mixed in these nephroids (the psychedelic plants) produced dream-like trances when ingested or inhaled. I have a 6 page treatise on this!

I have a big feeling this will be reprinted just in time for Halloween:


...but knowing it can only be fully appreciated by Americans, I can never wholeheartedly wear this shirt. I really really love the text-play concept (which I think is also inspired by the typographical map work of Paula Scher, who is one of the best contemporary commercial artists I truly admire) and I admire hogboy's work. So I decided to create something by borrowing the idea yet adding a little twist of my own (see the little drawings): a "translation" using my own country's rich folklore and mythology (I did painstaking research!). It also serves as a tribute to hogboy's Para-Normal US and most importantly love for my country :-)

Of course, I can't submit it here... but I will be printing this on my own with the help of my brother for a very very limited number, here in the Philippines. Will hopefully be available by latter October, in time for the Halloween season.
