Have you ever tried the medium? I always buy large but my most recent purchase was a medium and it fits like a dream. I mean, I have lost a couple of pounds recently but not enough to make that much of a difference, and if you look at the size guide there's not much in it.

Also, do people notice lighter shirts tend to be a lot baggier? I will definately be switching to medium size for any white/light blue shirts I buy from now on. The one I bought was actually black (sticks of shame) but I've always felt a couple of my lighter shirts were too big and desperate attempts to shrink them just didn't pay off!

So! Why not try a medium now and then?

... or maybe I'm trying to stop girly large's selling out so quickly...

im thinking about going from a small to a meduim. the smalls fit great after they first come out of the package, but then after i wash and air dry it, it loses a couple inches from the bottom.

Hmm yeah I have yet to wash mine yet so I'm living in fear. I'm pretty short though, so as long as only the length shrinks I should be fine!

i have one large, and the rest mediums. the mediums vary a lot in size though.

i haven't but i ordered a M for my sister so we shall see!

lovesushi on Sep 16 '06 at 6:21pm
Cool. I think what made me go for it is buying my sister a medium (she's probably actually a small) and being stunned by how big it looked... to me it seemed almost as big as the large so I thought 'why not?', heck, it says 'one size' after all!

Hm, I might try that. It's weird, because the larges I bought when I first found threadless all fit pretty nicely, but lately the larges I've got have been huge. I'm just worried that if I buy a medium, it won't fit my shoulders and will be too short.
kayceislost
kayceislost on Sep 16 '06 at 6:25pm
my shoulders are big too, and the mediums fit fine. sometimes a little snug, but thats just depending on what color shirt it is.

i'm a medium, but the first time i ever bought a shirt, i bought a large because of what the measurements say on the size chart. medium fits me way better. the first shirt that i bought (that was a large) shrunk and is now very short and baggy.

I can see this starting a medium revolution! I hate being labelled large anyway when here in the UK I'm two sizes below the average...

...Mind you, the average here is probably pretty big considering how unhealthy the British are becoming!
hannabear
hannabear on Sep 16 '06 at 6:30pm
^ yeah same. i thought that medium could be too small.

i have not quite the same problem. i buy men's large and am wondering if i should switch sizes too. i like them in the upper portions, but they gather around the waist quite a bit and i would never be able to wear any of the shirts with designs on the bottom of the tee.

i'm a guy and i buy girl's large (sometimes..)
lovesushi
lovesushi on Sep 16 '06 at 6:40pm
Yeah I've thought about buying guy's small before when shirts I love have sold out, but I know I'd miss the more flattering cut of the girl shirt.

I think there's a pretty big difference. I usually buy mediums, I just have two larges because I couldn't get mediums those times, and the larges are too big.

What's the average UK size?
lovesushi
lovesushi on Sep 16 '06 at 6:44pm
I think the average UK size is 16. Though that may have changed...
loserbeech
loserbeech on Sep 16 '06 at 6:47pm
Really? I thought it must be smaller than that, Topshop et al hardly ever stock 16s.
lovesushi
lovesushi on Sep 16 '06 at 6:57pm
Yeah but they aren't catering to the masses, damn elitists! I used to love topshop... I still love topman cos they do the prettiest skinny silk ties!

I could've sworn it was 16... maybe not...
lovesushi
lovesushi on Sep 16 '06 at 7:01pm
Googled it and yeah, apparently it is 16, though lots of disgruntled shoppers are bemoaning the lack of retailers that stock it. Surely it makes more sense to makes clothes for the average size rather than below average? Where's the good marketing sense in that?!

Clearly they don't believe in maximising profit...

I really hate Topman. I just have this near-irrational hatred of it. I like Topshop though, they have nice pants. And socks, too.

The thing is that Topshop are aiming for the younger market, of which the average size is probably less than 16.

There was a programme on not so long go by a comedian who was pretty large, he was bemoaning the fact that overweight people can't find clothes or go on rides. He got two girls sized 20 to buy some clothes from Topshop that they liked, then had them made in their size for them, and posted some samples back to Topshop and Miss Selfridge.

lovesushi on Sep 16 '06 at 7:14pm
Oh I saw that, the bit where they went on the rides was really shocking. I hate pretty much everything that topman stands for, but I love the ties.

Also, the branch nearest me has the loveliest sales assistant guy that always looks at me a bit funny when I go in and buy ties and accessories! I like to confuse him...

My uncle was kicked off a ride for being too fat once, and he's not even that fat.

All of the sales assistants in our Topman are stuck up prissy boys who I went to school with. And men who shop in Topman are untrustworthy.

I am extremely skeptical of Topman.

I wish we had Topshop here...It's kind of like a more fashionable, slightly more expensive version of Target, right?

We have H&M, but I don't really like their stuff...a lot of it is utterly HIDEOUS (sheer zebra-print halter tops and bright yellow/brown granny blouses).
loserbeech
loserbeech on Sep 16 '06 at 8:46pm
I'm not sure, we don't have a Target here. I don't think we have them at all in the UK, though I may be wrong.

We're due to get a H&M within a year or two, but I don't like their stuff either. My friends rave about it, but it's a load of cheap shit.
lovesushi
lovesushi on Sep 17 '06 at 4:01am
H&M does occasionally have the odd decent find... though their sizings are again totally fubar. For instance, say I want a plain black shirt. In the ladies section I'd buy a 12 and it'd be a perfect fit. In the younger ('more fashionable') section, I'd have to get a 14 and breathe in like crazy each time I wore it!

Curse you H&M!

Topshop is ok, a bit like target I'm guessing from what I've heard, but then a lot of the better tee designs etc are by US companies like realitee anyway, so you're not really missing out.
