How good/bad is this?
I found a tutorial and decided to try it out. I got to about step 6 and just stopped and did it on my own.

I did most of this last night and a worked a little on it this morning:

I know I'm not the best at Illustrator so... anything I can improve upon? How awful is it? (I'm never really proud of anything I make... this seems to be no exception.)

just work with the pen tool a bit more. You have alot of jagged edges...

you captured the basic form of the face well. you can definitely tell it's the same person.

its not so bad maybe trim up the curly sideburns, and if you dont like it i mean whatever its only hair it will grow back

one of the best haircuts i ever had i gave myself it was pretty rockin

I think the whole thing is one jagged edge haha...

It's hard for me to make rounded edges because when I do, the shape always seems to go whacko... like it crosses over itself sometimes.

right... try holding down it's either shift, ctrl or alt (sorry I can't remember right now, cuz I'm not at my apartment, but.) try using those and moving the nodes with your pen tool selected. also, the empty arrow tool is your friend
