So, like a lot of you, I'm a student. My field of study is new media/interactive design. For anyone also in a creative field, either studying or professionally, what books and or magazines do you turn to for advice/tips/inspiration? I'm looking for more practical things like how to get/keep clients, process development, how to not eff up an interview, etc.

My personal favorites are: how to be a graphic designer, without losing your soul (book) and HOW (magazine)

Pornography whether it be graphic novel, soft-core housewife smut softcover supermarket aisle novels, naughty mags.

HOW, alistapart.com, PRINT, Computer Arts, CMYK.. I also read a lot of pretty magazines that have nothing to do with Art/Illustration/Design because I get a boner for print layout.

i've never read any of them. i occasionally flip through a Graphis Annual if I chance upon one but otherwise I prefer to ignore the broader art and design community so I don't find myself subconciously stealing ideas or being drawn into trends. Plus I'm just not interested.

d3d, I was referring more to aspects of working in those fields, not necessarily to what is produced by them. I agree to some extent. I've referred others to this article, but I think I will again. So, here goes:

Ok here goes. These may not all be specifically design/illustration... but they have features on them.

Tokion, Illustrated Ape, Lodown, Monster Children, IdN, Grafik, CMYK, Zembla (Literary magazine but in terms of design, their layout is beautiful).

Favourite books would have to be Grafuck and Seb Jarnot's one.

I haven't submitted any photos. I guess I don't want free money.
