This summer I'm working at a Christian summer camp. I'm in the kitchen with one of my good friends, Andre. We got through a week of staff training (I missed the first week of training because of finals and graduation -- I graduated high school, by the way!) and half a week of camp.

Then it flooded. Everywhere. Stupid Pocono Mountains.

I walked down to the kitchen this morning just after 7 and was met with this site.

There was a river running through our Lower Meadow.

And several inches of water in my kitchen.

Our trash cans were floating away.

More Lower Meadow

Bob's Depot, our gym/big space/basketball court/worship area, was a bit... um... under water as well.

There a swinging bridge going between Jr. and Sr. High that runs over Pocono Creek. There is usually a good 10 foot drop below the bridge before you hit any water. The water was running maybe 5 inches below the ends of the bridge, barely underneath it in the middle. A huge wedge of land was underwater and added to the creek, which decided to float down the path to Bob's and thus into Lower Meadow. Our pond has expanded a lot. The dock floated away. Meadowside, a building in Upper Meadow, is an island. The kitchen is screwed.

Life sucks a little. It was exciting. But now the camp might not re-open.

Looks the same right down the street of me!
I kind of enjoy flooding though.

My God, if I was there I would make sooo many Ark jokes.

That sort of sight makes you want to believe in God.

Haha. We actually have a pavillion called the Ark. But it's cemented to the ground... wouldn't float very well.

We didn't do anything wrong! :P Staff is actually very well behaved this year. No dramatic romances or drunken nights or anything.

And yeah. I enjoy flooding. I like water and it was a cool adventure. Certainly unexpected, at least on my part. It just sucks that they had to (hopefully temporarily) close the camp.

floods are fun. back home i remember a few times i couldn't get to school because roads were washed out and we spent the day trying to spear fish in the main street. pretty surreal.
