I'm wondering how the selection process works for the 12 month club.

Are shirts marked "I'd Buy It" by a high percentage of 12 month clubbers over non-subscribers generally favored?
Shirts that they think are great that won't sell as well as a standard print?

If it's the former than I can't complain about the shirt selection for 2008.

If it's the latter, I might. because they haven't, IMO, been really great at all. There were 10 out of 12 shirts that I adored for 2007. So far out of 4 I only really like one (c86), am lukewarm on another, and annoyed at the other two.

I know, the next 10 could all be great and this was a stupid blog.

I'm really happy with the selection. Sometimes I'll see the design they picked out and be like, "meh". But then once I see it in real life, I end up loving it and wearing it all the time. They could be throwing darts for their selection process for all I know... but whatever it is, it's working.

I don't want to sound like a dick, because that's not my intention - it's really curiosity on the selection more than criticism OF the selections.

...but...

I just can't see you trotting around and loving Little Panda Escape, Priscilla.
The February shirt felt like something you could get at an outdoor store, to me.

That's the risk with the 12 month club, I know. But 06 and 07 were soooo good. I thought I was locking into a Sure Thing of Awesomeness.

I'll bet the staff just picks out what they like. I'm thinking maybe they have a bunch of prints lined up and maybe they just pick a 12 month print from the bunch... sometimes people get emails that say that their design was picked for the 12 month club, but I just got a regular ol' email for Bicycle Race. Then all of a sudden it became a 12 month club print so I kinda get the feeling they decided that later on. Who knows. Maybe it varies?

Haha, I actually sold one shirt on ebay and gave one shirt away for a quilt. I'm not gonna say which ones though :-)

I would've hooked you up, castle, but I already gave it away.

you should check with me from here on out, especially if you rock a Men's Large.

I didn't want to name (shirt) names - but I know that you know what I'm talking about. you know.

I think my mother in law sleeps in Little Panda Escape.

Flying Mouse is very talented. But that shirt is simply not for men. Especially men with beards.

i got an email saying mine was for the 12club.

i usually end up liking half of them and then giving the other half away. most of them i give to my sister to give away/keep.

i wonder how they pick them too. there's a good selection style/content wise though which is good but then it also means that it's unavoidable that people won't like all of them.

right, totally. Absolutely
That's how I should've phrased the initial blog. I lack Internet Communication Skills. Jan is my hero.

I really, by the way, would like for all my prints to be in the 12 month club. I have no good reason for that. Maybe, I just like the idea of the exclusivity.

Flying Mouse - this isn't a knock at you or your shirt. Promise. Like I said, you're crazy talented - and YOU know what you're doing.

I'm just curious about the process, not questioning it.

You know what might be kinda cool? If they had two versions of the 12 club that you could sign up for... one that caters towards the cutesy, punny, FWF crowd. Then another that caters towards the artsy, weird crowd. Maybe that's too complicated. If I ruled the world, that's how it would be :-P

V&V - that would cause waaaay too much anguish and desperate screaming of 'ARRGH this month's FWF is so much better than my random swirly!'

I think the cutesy FWF stuff sells fine one its own. I wish the 12 club was exclusively weird stuff.

...or there will be a random swirly with a face and they'll be like, "Which club should it go in??"

If you look through The History of the 12 Month Club there really isn't that much cutesy stuff. Maybe, literally, a handful. And really, specifically, no FWF that I can see.

they could always give 2 options and have the 12 subscribers pick which of the 2 they want the month before... It's not like they don't know how many people are getting them and even if someone was just signing up they could still get a pick before they printed.

they could even throw a random option in there so if you don't pick they pick one of the two for you...

idk; but I have a bunch I don't wear...

honestly, the year before i started mine, i loved every single print (and really, the year before that too).

but since starting, there have been very few that were to my liking. i bought it again in hopes of future shirts being more my style.

if they aren't, i'll sell them. no big loss.

i'd just rather them be the kind i'd like to keep.

whatevers though. good to the artists who have been printed.

Yeah, I started mine in Nov. I think... have liked about half, but even then, they wouldn't have been the shirts I'd buy. Don't think I'll renew it.
