Whats the deal with denying my design with no additional information as to why? All I got was a form letter.

And I quote:

"The reason your design was declined is: Unfortunately, your design did not pass the pre-screening by Threadless and therefore was not accepted into the running. We want every submission on Threadless to have the best possible chance at becoming a tee. The reason your design did not pass the pre-screening is we feel it could use a little more work to be up to that standard.

We now have a feature that allows you to have your design critiqued before you submit it for approval to be in the running. We're certain this will help you improve your design! Learn about this new feature here.

Good luck!

------------------------------------------------

Here are some other reasons we sometimes decline a design:

- The number one decline reason is that your design did not pass the initial panel of Judges. Each submission must be approved by 3 Judges before being put in the running. Due to the large number of submissions we receive, we cannot accept every submission into the running.

- Improperly sized thumbnails and designs
- The design has too many colors
- The design has a gradient or halftones
- Submission did not use the templates
- Inappropriate material within the design
- The design is too large to print
- The design contains copyrighted material

Thank you for submitting to Threadless,
The Jakes"

Now if they could tell me if it was a technical problem I could resubmit it. I don't submit to the critique area because I don't believe in design by democracy.

well post up the design so we can see it. It's pretty hard to figure out the problem without one.

If you don't believe in design by democracy, threadless probably isn't your thing, unless you just hating having your designs printed and winning money.

Critiques aren't about design by democracy - they're about putting your stuff out there so that fresh eyes can point out potential design flaws. Sometimes they have good suggestions.

If you think you've done everything right with the sub, then it might just be that they don't think it's good enough. Sorry.

Oh and I missed your comment on hating "design by democracy". Then go away!

Threadless is pretty much a democracy. The masses vote and then the ones that they vote the best win. Very very rarely (if ever) does threadless decide to print something that is scored poorly by the masses.

Hopefully every time you sub here someone will ressurrect that hating design by deomocray quote and post it in your subs comments so that everyone can vote accordingly.

shirtflirt: if you look at the letter it is reasons why they deny any submissions. My particular question is why EXACTLY they denied mine, so I can fix it if it was a technical issue. If they don't like it it's fine by me.

And as far as disliking design by democracy, that's different than having people vote on your design. I think something is lost in the translation regarding what I mean.

What I am saying is, too many cooks in the kitchen telling the main cook how to do something usually doesn't work. Critiques are always welcome, trust me I have had my fair share of them and continue to every day.

Here is a link to the design

nothing to do with quality of design - the letter you got was a form letter it goes out to all denied designs - but I count 6 colors - if you make the eyes on the potato dude white - you will be good i think

I agree with your point here - but that is the challenge in the critiques is to take what works and leave what does not - I have seen some decent designs made bad by too much conflicting advice in crits - so I think i understand your point

Awesome! Thank you threadless crew. I appreciate the feedback. Shimala, thanks for double checking it. I am much more excited to be contributing now. Isaboa, you may be correct about the halftone in the eyes. I can go back and fix it if they let me.
