about Africa
I come from South Africa, and this shirt makes me sad.

1) Africa is not a single place. It's a continent that consists of diverse countries with diverse cultures. It's like saying the USA, Canada and Mexico are America!

2) We have more than wildlife here. The Lion King is not an accurate picture of Africa in general.

3) The shirt reminds me of a logo of a bank here: https://www.fnb.co.za/

Stereotypes ftl. :(

UberRyan, stop. Africa is a continent. You didn't exactly help your case (or your humor) when you call Africa a country. It just shows you're kind of a dumbass.

wow, you suck a lot.

If someone made a shirt that was called Asia and it was all pandas in kimonos eating rice with Buddha and Shiva, people would be all, "Oh hellz naw!"

It's not so much that a shirt with AIDS babies and poverty would be better, but like...why? The title just seems silly and needlessly stereotype enforcing to me, but then again, it's really not *that* big of a deal.

It'd be rad if Africa was identified as a continent more often, rather than a country. And yes, it'd be nice if there was more discussion of Kemut and castles and all the other positive things in that massive region of the world. But to say this shirt stereotypes isn't really hitting the mark.

Maybe you'll make the next relevant and edifying Africa shirt? Maybe this is as good a time as any to mention that I once had a girlfriend from South Africa?

Good lord, every time Australia is represented ANYWHERE the key components are:

- the crocodile hunter

- kangaroos

- uluru

- people surfing

- people 'throwing a shrimp on the barbie'

We don't moan about it.

stillusio, i know where you're coming from (yah, s. africa, but i also mean i understand your perspective). you have to understand, as has been proven by the tone of this thread, that a lot of americans are proud of their ignorance. i'm not saying that because nearly everyone disagreed with you but because of the way people have chosen to "communicate" with you. unfortunately i agree with those that say you just have to let it roll off your back. remember they are their own worst punishment. and just for the record, i didn't like the shirt either. i do think "safari" would be a better name, but what i really don't like is the whole image and design because i don't really get it. i don't get the steps and the symmetry of the design. but see, at least i can admit it instead of posturing and acting like it's okay to go through life stupid. anyway...

wow, you had a lot to say about a really unimportant subject...

even within the U.S., there are unfair stereotypes. I am from Iowa. We are not all farmers that drive tractors to work. Only 99.9% of us are. Damn it, people, stop the stereotypes!

You know what, its a nice shirt. End of story. Once you put the shirt on, you can feel free to ignore the title/name of the shirt. If you don't like the shirt don't buy it. I realize that Africa is way more diverse than that, and thats great. Yet, I still bought the shirt because I think its spiffy.

TehGenesis on Jul 21 '06 at 5:53pm
my teacher did a missionary trip to africa... one of her friends got a bug bite... and a few weeks later her leg was swollen with spider eggs inside.

would you rather depict that for africa? thats just gross man :(

Just ordered this shirt and I am eagerly anticipating its arrival. So suck on that Africa blog. MWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAH! Time to cause some controversy! ;)
Nessapop
Nessapop on Jul 22 '06 at 12:18am
duh stupid. of course africa is more diverse than a bunch of animals. most people know that africa has PEOPLE and BUILDINGS in it!

also stillusio, this is not a stereotype of africa (the continent by the way). africa is known for its many exotic animals and different plant life that you can't find anywhere else. thats what i think of when i think of, also i think of my ancestors that used to live there before they where plucked away.

i think i'm feeling what this artist has to say. after all the things that africa(the continent) had been through, Poverty,Slavery, AIDS,Genocide, and losing their own land and APARTHEID, despite all of those things, is still one of the most beautiful places in the world.

ps: AIDS is not funny. not even the least bit.

this entire blog makes me laugh

from africa to man-ass

and i wish my country was known for all that wildlife. in fact, my province is one of the most diverse areas in the world, but all we're known for is beer, weed, beavers and wheat. and the word 'eh'

i actually do say eh alot and i just laugh when i catch myself.

can anyone name the country? woah this is a toughie.
